Legendary's Street Fighter reboot is beginning to pick up some speed. Two months after securing new directors following the exit of Talk to Me filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, casting has reportedly started on the movie.
According to Nexus Point News, Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo are in talks to join the Street Fighter reboot as Ryu, the titular martial artist of the franchise who has dedicated his life to mastering the art of Ansatsuken through any fight he can by traveling the world in search of worthy opponents; and Ken Masters, Ryu's charismatic best friend/brotherly rival who trained with Ryu under the same master, Gouken, respectively. Both characters have appeared in all seven of the main Street Fighter video games, including the most recent Street Fighter 6, which was released on PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows in 2023.

Koji is best known for his lead role in Warrior, a Cinemax/Max series based on an original concept and treatment by martial arts legend Bruce Lee. He also portrayed Storm Shadow in the G.I. Joe Origins movie Snake Eyes opposite Henry Golding as the title character, and "the Father" in the Brad Pitt-led action comedy film Bullet Train. His other television credits include a recurring role in the spy thriller series Black Doves and a main role in the latest season of Gareth Evans' action thriller series Gangs of London.
As for Centineo, he got his start on the small screen with roles in Disney Channel's Austin & Ally and Freeform's The Fosters, before achieving wider recognition by starring in Netflix's rom-com trilogy To All the Boys between 2018 and 2021. Street Fighter won't be the first major franchise Centineo has found himself attached to, as he previously portrayed Atom Smasher in the DC Extended Universe movie Black Adam and was at one point attached to play He-Man in the Masters of the Universe reboot. His most recent credits include the Alex Garland movie Warfare and the spy-adventure series The Recruit, which was canceled last month by Netflix after two seasons.
Legendary has been working on a Street Fighter reboot with Capcom since 2023. Danny and Michael Philippou were originally attached to direct the film, but departed from the project in June 2024 due to scheduling conflicts. After a lack of development updates, the reboot began to regain some of its momentum earlier this year when it tapped Kitao Sakurai as director. He is best known for co-writing and directing Bad Trip, the 2021 Netflix comedy featuring Eric Andre. Sakurai also worked on the actor's TV series The Eric Andre Show. The latest draft of the screenplay was by Dalan Musson, one of the credited screenwriters on Captain America: Brave New World.
Street Fighter was originally set to hit theaters on March 20, 2026, but is currently undated after Sony removed it from its release calendar last month.
