Rick and Morty fans can now watch Season 8's brand-new opening credits sequence. New episodes of the hit Adult Swim sitcom will debut later this month.

"New season, new open", Rick and Morty's official social media account posted on X (formerly Twitter). The thirty-second video features the classic Rick and Morty theme song, but with new footage showing the zany exploits of the mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson, Morty Smith, as they go on wild adventures throughout the galaxy. Last month, the show debuted a chaotic new trailer for Season 8, introducing some of the brand-new worlds the two characters will explore. Rick and Morty Season 8 will run for ten episodes, with the first premiering on Adult Swim on May 25.

The sci-fi sitcom was created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Adult Swim and made its debut back in 2013. It's consistently been one of the top performers for the network, garnering critical acclaim for its writing and humor as well as its originality and storytelling. Rick and Morty has been nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program, winning in 2018 and 2020.

The long-running comedy series remains consistently critically acclaimed with each new season. The show's overall average on Rotten Tomatoes is an impressive 90%, with an equally high 84% audience score. The first season of Rick and Morty debuted with a 97% approval rating, with seasons 2-4 also being in the 90s. 2023's Season 7 is currently the lowest-rated in the series, but is still considered 'Fresh' with a score of 77%.

Rick and Morty's Future is Bright - Despite Some Scandalous Setbacks

Ahead of Rick and Morty Season 7, the series was renewed as part of a long-term deal with Cartoon Network that confirmed the show would run all the way through to a twelfth season. However, the hit series did experience some pretty significant setbacks in 2023, when Adult Swim cut ties with Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland amid allegations of domestic abuse. Roiland voiced both Rick and Morty in the first six seasons of the series, with the roles then being recast to Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden, respectively.

Season 7 of Rick and Morty may have been a period of adjustment for longtime fans of the series, but now that the show is ready to continue full-speed ahead without one of its original creators, it appears that Season 8 is ready to deliver the classic chaos and interdimensional adventures that fans have come to know and love. With four more seasons promised after Season 8 concludes, fans will have plenty to look forward to in the years to come.
