Peacemaker Season 2 Trailer Is Packed With DCU Cameos (& 1 You'll Never Expect)

Peacemaker was among the first James Gunn projects for the DC Studios. The now co-CEO is rebooting the universe with Peter Safran, but Peacemaker will continue to be canon to the upcoming franchise.

Peacemaker premiered in 2022 and served as a spinoff based on the filmmaker's 2021 film The Suicide Squad. It brought back John Cena's mercenary Christopher Smith/ Peacemaker, and it was a massive success on Max. Following a long break in between seasons, Peacemaker Season 2 has just debuted the first trailer.

John Cena's R-rated DC superhero show comes from James Gunn, who returned to write the series. The filmmaker also directed the yet-untitled Season 1. The first teaser brings back several characters from Season 1, but it also introduces some new characters.

Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner and Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl are set to appear this summer in Superman, but they also have a cameo in the Peacemaker Season 2 teaser. The new clip also introduces Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. Following his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy, Sean Gunn also made his way over to the DCU as Maxwell Lord. Among the many unexpected appearances, John Cena's second appearance as Peacemaker at the end of the trailer tops the cameos.

The trailer also confirms that, after a three-year break, Peacemaker Season 2 will return this summer after Superman. The show will officially premiere on Aug. 21 on Max.

Following the events of Season 1, Cena's titular character and his team had high hopes for the future, hoping to be able to be taken seriously. However, the trailer shows that it will be difficult, as the team still has to prove itself.

Ahead of the trailer release, James Gunn released the official poster on social media. "There is no I in Peace," was the official logline for the new season, which shows Cena's character forehead-to-forehead with his pet eagle, Eagly. It also teased the release date for Aug. 21. The trailer introduced a new logline, "Achieving peace is a team effort."

Gunn also released the trailer on social media, writing, "As promised, here's the full teaser trailer for Peacemaker Season 2. The 11th Street Kids are back for a double dose of peace this August."

Season 2 takes place in the rebooted DC Universe, which offered a small teaser with the animated show Creature Commandos. The official kickstart of the universe will be this summer's Superman.

Similar to season 1, Peacemaker Season 2 will continue to be as violent, but also funny and filled with heartwarming bonding moments between Peacemaker and his 11th Street Kids crew. It will also raise the stakes. Ahead of the release of the first official teaser, Peacemaker Season 2 treated fans to a new spot during Inside the NBA featuring Rick Flag. Sr.

Grillo made his debut in the DCU in Creature Commandos, where he voiced the same character. Flag. Sr's arrival and his promise to find vengeance pose a new, larger-scale conflict for the crew. Grillo is also expected to return as Flag Sr. in the Superman movie.

Peacemaker Season 2 premieres on Max on Aug. 21 and will consist of eight episodes, just like Season 1.
