The time to come back to Hogwarts is almost here. The Harry Potter TV show has just made a huge update and revealed it has cast the new Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.
Per Warner Bros., the upcoming HBO Original series cast newcomers Dominic McLaughlin in the role of Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron. The upcoming HBO Original series is expected to start filming this summer. Although some actors have already been cast, the biggest question was who would become the new Golden Trio, and Warner Bros. has officially cleared that up.

In a statement following the cast announcement, showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner, as well as Mark Mylod, who executive produces and will direct multiple episodes, shared, "After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron."
The statement continued, "The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there."
The upcoming HBO Harry Potter series will be one for the original fans, as it will attempt to give a more faithful adaptation of the seven novels J.K. Rowling wrote, which were previously adapted into eight films between 2000 and 2011, with the final novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, being split into two films.
The casting call was one for the ages. Warner Bros., which holds the rights to the original films and the upcoming series, posted a casting call in September, with a submission deadline for Oct. 31, 2024. They were looking for children who will be between the ages of 9 and 11 in April 2025, and it accepts submissions from residents in the U.K. and Ireland.
It was expected to have thousands of children reach out, considering Harry Potter has been a phenomenon for almost three decades. In the end, 32,000 children auditioned for the leading roles. Among them, there was also a 42-year-old man who auditioned to play 11-year-old Hermione Granger. Naturally, he was rejected, and now Arabella Stanton will take over the role.
In the film series, the leading roles were played by Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed the titular character, Emma Watson, who played the smart witch Hermione Granger, and Rupert Grint, who played the loyal friend Ron Weasley.
The Harry Potter TV Show's Cast Is Growing
Casting the Golden Trio proves the series could start production this summer, as indicated. While the three recently-announced actors will be the leads of the series, they are hardly the first cast members to join the upcoming version of Harry Potter. So far, the series has welcomed several adult characters.

The first actor tied to a character was John Lithgow, who was officially penned to play Professor Albus Dumbledore. Other casting choices included Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, who will play series regulars. Guest and recurring roles include Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
Ahead of the upcoming Harry Potter series, leading actor Dominic McLaughlin will work with the new Hagrid, Nick Frost, in the family comedy Grow. Stanton has her own experience with iconic characters, as she starred as Matilda in Matilda: The Musical on the West End from 2023-2024.
The Harry Potter series doesn't have a release date, but it's expected to premiere sometime in late 2026 or early 2027.
