The following contains major spoilers for the fifth episode of Dexter: Resurrection, "Cats and Mouse," available now on Paramount+.

Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter explains why her Dexter: Resurrection character's story was never going to end well.

Speaking to Deadline, Ritter opened up about her character Mia's trajectory on Dexter: Resurrection, and why is surprising turn was never going to "go well" for her in the end. Regarding Mia revealing herself as an unfeeling serial killer before being set up by Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan and arrested, Ritter said, "Shooting Episode 5 was exciting because of that turn."

"When I’m sitting down to read all the scripts, it’s an exciting character twist and another color to play. And I just loved how deranged and psychotic she turns out to be," Ritter continued. "She starts off very cool and deliberate, and then when she and Dexter warm up, it’s kind of very sexy and electric. But it turns out that she’s a bad guy, and that’s not gonna go well." Although Ritter's character is merely arrested by the police after being set up by Dexter, her stay in prison is cut short when another party has her murdered before she can expose any of her fellow serial killers or their malevolent benefactor.

Dexter: Resurrection premiered on Paramount+ on Jul. 11 and immediately cemented its place in the wider Dexter franchise. The series picks up just weeks after the events of Dexter: New Blood, which saw the titular serial killer shot point-blank by his own son Harrison, portrayed by Jack Alcott. After miraculously surviving his injury, Dexter makes his way to New York City to reconnect with his son, all while being trailed by David Zayas' Angel Batista. Apart from his violently estranged son and former coworker, Dexter also meets the enigmatic Leon Prater, portrayed by Peter Dinklage, a billionaire with a profound obsession with serial killers who brings together Ritter's Mia, David Dastmalchian's Gareth, Eric Stonestreet's Al, and Neil Patrick Harris' Lowell, the latter of whom Dexter eliminated in the series' fourth episode.

Apart from her role on Dexter: Resurrection, Ritter is set to take center stage on the small screen in the next season of Daredevil: Born Again, which will see her reprise her iconic role as Jessica Jones in her first proper Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance. Ritter previously explained how her role on Dexter: Resurrection provided coverage for her Daredevil: Born Again appearance, ultimately helping to keep the news from leaking early. "When I landed in New York, everybody was like, 'She's here for Daredevil.' Then it was announced that I was in Dexter, so it was a fun way to throw everybody off the track," Ritter recalled. "Marvel wanted to find the right time to announce so it could be celebratory and not have it leak, so it’s not something on the internet that comes and goes. We pulled it off, and that was exciting."

Dexter: Resurrection is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
