Tom Cruise finally seems to be on board for one more time loop. According to information in Production Weekly, the sequel to Cruise and Emily Blunt's criminally underseen sci-fi action movie Edge of Tomorrowwill finally film this fall after a 12-year wait.

While this is good news for fans of Edge of Tomorrow, don't get overly excited yet. Production Weekly has been known to put out incorrect information in the past, and there's been no official announcement about the production. Still, any update on this long-gestating sequel is reason for celebration.

What Is Edge of Tomorrow About?

In Edge of Tomorrow, Cruise plays Major Bill Cage, an officer who has never seen a day of combat, when he is unceremoniously demoted and dropped into combat. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an alpha alien down with him. He awakens back at the beginning of the same day and is forced to fight and die again... and again — as physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop.

Based on the Japanese light novel called All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, Edge of Tomorrow was directed by Doug Liman and written by Christopher McQuarrie, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth. Cruise stars opposite Emily Blunt, with Bill Paxton and Brendan Gleeson.

Edge of Tomorrow Is an Underseen Sci-Fi Hit Deserving a Sequel

Edge of Tomorrow was well-received by critics when it opened in theaters in May 2014. It has a 91% positive "Certified Fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics calling it "gripping, well-acted, funny, and clever," and "entertaining proof that Tom Cruise is still more than capable of shouldering the weight of a blockbuster action thriller."
