McDonald's is returning to the world of Sanrio this month for two new sets of Happy Meal toys -- although this time, the fast food giant is eschewing the ever-popular Hello Kitty for three other major mascot characters.
Beginning on Sept. 12, McDonald's will release two separate Happy Meal sets starring the popular Cinnamoroll, alongside Kuromi and My Melody. However, following previous Happy Meal releases that resulted in mass scalping issues, the Japan-exclusive drop comes with a strict warning from McDonald's that such measures will not be tolerated, stating that sales will be limited to in-store and drive-thru, with same-day mobile and delivery orders suspended. In addition, there will be a limit of three units sold per transaction per group. Official images of the two Happy Meal toy reveals can be seen below.
Sanrio Returns to McDonald's Happy Meals for New Cinnamoroll, Kuromi & My Melody Toy Release

The toy for the Cinnamoroll-themed Happy Meal is a picture book titled "Let's Play With Cinnamoroll" -- a first-time release for McDonald's. However, rather than being only a picture book featuring the fan-favorite Sanrio dog mascot, it also contains a selection of spot-the-difference games, riddles and other short word quizzes, as well as a set of stickers.
The second Happy Meal reveal stars eternal rivals Kuromi and My Melody in a more traditional collectible toy release, broken down into three 'waves.' The first installment (Sept. 12-25) features four different toys: a My Melody mascot character with a strap to attach to personal belongings such as bags or backpacks, a drawstring pouch starring a cute image of My Melody and Kuromi playing together, a My Melody and Kuromi 'multi-stand,' and a My Melody foldable hair comb with case.
Phase two (Sept. 26-Oct. 9) will see Sanrio's Kuromi take center stage, with these toys being a Kuromi mascot with strap, a My Melody and Kuromi aluminum case and letter set, a My Melody and Kuromi spoon and fork set, a bubble-blowing toy and finally, a mystery release that will not be unveiled until the first day of this installment's release. From Oct. 10 onward, while supplies last, both waves of Kuromi and My Melody Happy Meal toys will be released together.
Sanrio and McDonald's are certainly no stranger to Happy Meal collaborations, with previous releases starring Hello Kitty in multiple iterations, as well as characters such as Little Twin Stars and Pompompurin. While the new McDonald's reveal is limited to Japan at this time, international fans have likewise been treated to brand collaborations in the past, with Hello Kitty only recently returning to McDonald's U.S. for a unique crossover with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
