John Cena Teases Interest In Exploring A New Movie Genre

Cena made the revelation during the 2025 Fan Expo Philadelphia via Bloody Disgusting. When asked which side of the knife he would want to be on in a potential horror production, he said, "My answer to that is yes, because I've never been in a horror film, so I would just want to be in a horror film. If you're out there, and you’re doing it, I’m available."

Since 2021, Cena has portrayed Christopher Smith/Peacemaker in the DC Extended Universe. The first was The Suicide Squad by writer-director James Gunn, which introduced Peacemaker as a valuable and fiercely loyal if frequently unhinged member of the eponymous team. The Suicide Squad ultimately failed to make back its production budget, only bringing in $168.7 million against a $185 million budget, yet was well-received by fans and critics alike.

In 2022, Cena returned to the role in HBO's Peacemaker series alongside an ensemble cast including Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase aka Vigilante, Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn, Steve Agee as John Economos, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Robert Patrick as August Smith, better known as the White Dragon. Peacemaker Season 1 was met with near-unanimous acclaim upon its release, and a second season was pushed into production not long after.

Peacemaker Season 2 Will Get A New Theme Song

In February, Gunn discussed the new theme song that Peacemaker is getting for its second season, all while quietly letting fans know what they can expect from Season 2. "I went through a lot of permutations of potential songs, that I was gonna have it open to, you know, including reusing, doing a different dancing to the "Do You Wanna Taste It," but then we ended up with something else that I think works," Gunn said.

"And I think it's the second season is much more about the characters and the interconnectivity between the characters and their personal lives, and it's more about Chris Smith than it is about Peacemaker, and so I think that the song reflects that, overarching theme," Gunn added.

Peacemaker iSeason 1 is currently streaming on HBO Max. Season 2 is slated to premiere on Aug. 21.
