A new opening sequence for the King of the Hill sequel series has just been unveiled. Also confirmed is the official premiere date for the updated version of the animated show.

On Friday, Hulu released a new clip from the King of the Hill reboot, which picks up many years after the events of the original series. Bobby Hill is now a young adult, while Hank, Peggy, Dale, Boomhauer, and Bill are looking a little bit older. The sequence also serves as a way of showing the characters aging as the years progress, even including a moment with some of them wearing face masks, a callback to the pandemic era. The show will be launching on Hulu (and Hulu on Disney+) on Aug. 4, 2025, and fans can watch the opening sequence below.

The opening sequence confirms the return of most major characters from the original show. This includes Dale Gribble, whose voice actor, Johnny Hardwick, passed away during the animated revival's production. There were reports that Hardwick had completed some of his voiceover work for the new show before his passing, but it remains unclear how much of a presence Dale will have in the revival. There hasn't been any indication at this time that the role will be recast.

Brittany Murphy was another beloved member of the original cast, as she voiced Luanne. Lucky, Luanne's partner, was also voiced by late singer Tom Petty. Both have since passed away and were not expected to appear in the revival. It's not yet known how the absence of these characters will be addressed. The revival will bring back other original voice cast members, including co-creator Mike Judge as Hank Hill and Boomhauer; Kathy Najimy as Peggy; Pamela Adlon as Bobby; Stephen Root as Bill; and Lauren Tom as Connie.

King of the Hill Gets a Sequel Series

The original King of the Hill was created by Judge and Greg Daniels. It debuted on Fox in 1997, joining other animated shows skewed towards older viewers of the era, like The Simpsons, Futurama, and Beavis and Butt-Head. King of the Hill was much more grounded than those other shows, however, making it stand on its own. It became a major hit, going on to run for 13 total seasons before wrapping up in 2009. It has continued to remain popular in more recent years thanks to classic episodes on streaming.

King of the Hill will debut its revival on Aug. 4, 2025, on Hulu. It is expected to last for two seasons.
