28 Days Later has a brand-new streaming home, and fans can watch it completely free before 28 Years Later arrives in theaters.
28 Days Later has officially found a new streaming home ahead of the release of the latest entry in the long-running series, 28 Years Later. Fans can watch 28 Days Later for free on PlutoTV. The second film in the series, 28 Weeks Later, also happens to also be streaming for free, but the catch is that it's on a different platform, as it's over on Tubi; fans can also stream the film on Hulu.
Directed by Danny Boyle from a screenplay by Alex Garland, 28 Days Later starred Cillian Murphy as Jim, a bike courier who wakes up from a nearly month-long coma to find London all but completely abandoned. As Jim searches for answers, he discovers that the city was evacuated while he was in his comatose state due to the outbreak of a virus that transforms those infected into murderous rage-zombies. The film's tight ensemble cast also featured Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson, Megan Burns, Christopher Eccleston, Noah Huntley, and Stuart McQuarrie.
Upon its release in 2003, 28 Days Later was lauded by critics and audiences alike, the latter of which helped turn the film into a resounding financial success. Over the course of its original theatrical run, 28 Days Later brought in well over $84 million at the box office against a budget of only $8 million. Four years later, 28 Weeks Later by director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo brought audiences back to the world of a rage-zombie ravaged England. While the sequel was still well-received and a financial success at the box office, another sequel wouldn't enter production for more than two decades.
The Horror Continues With 28 Years Later
Fans are currently eagerly awaiting the release of the next film in the series, 28 Years Later, is set to arrive in theaters on June 20. The film marks Boyle's return to the series, as well as the beginning of a new era for the fan-favorite franchise. Boyle recently discussed the evolution of the rage-zombies at the heart of 28 Years Later, explaining that "There have been evolutions [of the infected] because we didn't want to just stand still with them. There has been kind of mutations that have developed, if you like." Boyle also promised the introduction of a new, slow-moving version of the series' iconic rage-zombies, which he noted were "still dangerous."
28 Days Later is currently available for streaming for free on PlutoTV.
