While everyone is busy talking about the Ocarina of Time remake rumors, Nintendo just revealed that The Legend of Zelda’s Wild Era is returning for what may be the last time this September.
Via an announcement on Nintendo Today, Nintendo is celebrating Tears of the Kingdom’s 3-year anniversary (yes, it has been 3 years already) with a new in-game update and amiibo coming to the game. The amiibo depicts Mineru’s Construct, which Link built in the Depths below Hyrule during TOTK’s divisive but nonetheless enjoyable Spirit Temple.
Notably, the new amiibo's release in September comes right around the time Nintendo has confirmed it will be raising the price of the Switch 2 from $450 to $500. They'll definitely need more than a new TOTKparaglider to convince Zelda fans to buy the new system when that happens.
Tears of the Kingdom's New Release Could Be the Last Fans See of the Wild Era
As per Nintendo's announcement, the Mineru amiibo comes out on September 17. This amiibo even gives players a chance to unlock a special Mineru-themed paraglider fabric, which can apparently glow in the dark — perfect for exploring what's left of the Depths for players that somehow still haven't lit them all in the past 3 years.
The amiibo itself looks pretty awesome as well. Aside from being quite detailed, it also has “articulated arms that can move around” according to Nintendo’s announcement.
As great as the new Mineru amiibo looks, it’s hard not to get a bittersweet feeling from this release. Just like Mineru’s construct, which is only the mere shadow of a Sage who has really long-since passed, this new update for TOTK may truly be the last update for a game that’s now part of a bygone era in Zelda history.
The fact the Wild Era is demonstrably over looks increasingly likely as the rumors and leaks pile in about the Ocarina of Time remake, and more information comes out about next year’s live-action Zelda movie.
