Wizards of the Coast has revealed four preconstructed Commander decks for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering—Star Trek set.
The collection will feature two decks inspired by different eras of the United Federation of Planets, while the remaining decks focus on two of the Federation’s most recognizable adversaries: the Klingon Empire and the Borg Collective.
Preconstructed Commander decks have become an important part of many Magic: The Gathering crossover releases. Previous collections have offered decks based on major characters, teams, and factions, including Mordor in The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth and several superhero groups in the Marvel crossover.
These ready-to-play decks are designed to help fans enter the Commander format without having to build an entire deck themselves. They can be especially appealing to newcomers who are already familiar with the featured franchise.

The Federation Faces the Klingons and the Borg
The four Star Trek Commander decks are expected to arrive alongside the larger set on November 13, 2026.
Each deck will feature a different face commander, three colors, and a gameplay strategy inspired by its characters and faction.
Federation Fleet
Face commander: Captain Jean-Luc PicardColors: Blue, white, and redStrategy: Card drawing, starships, and the Station mechanic
Federation Fleet focuses on the later eras of Star Trek, including characters and themes associated with The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard leads the deck, which appears to emphasize cooperation, planning, and advanced Federation technology. Based on the packaging description, players will likely use starships and space stations that become more powerful as they are charged or developed throughout the game.
Landing Party
Face commander: SpockColors: Green, white, and blueStrategy: Landfall and exploration
Spock commands Landing Party, a deck inspired primarily by the era of Star Trek: The Original Series.
Its Landfall strategy rewards players whenever a land enters the battlefield. That mechanic fits naturally with the franchise’s focus on exploration, visiting new worlds, and discovering unfamiliar civilizations.
The deck will likely encourage players to place additional lands onto the battlefield and gain bonuses as their expedition continues.
Klingon Fury
Face commander: WorfColors: Red, white, and blackStrategy: Aggressive combat and battlefield-wide attacks
Worf leads the Klingon-themed Klingon Fury deck.
As its name suggests, this deck appears to favor a direct and aggressive style of play. Klingon warriors are likely to attack quickly, challenge multiple opponents, and remove artifacts or enchantments that stand in their way.
The strategy reflects the Klingon Empire’s emphasis on strength, honor, battle, and victory.
We Are the Borg
Face commander: The Borg QueenColors: White, blue, and blackStrategy: Creating creatures and assimilating opponents
The Borg Queen commands We Are the Borg, a deck centered on expanding the Borg Collective.
Players will apparently be able to create creature tokens and take control of opposing creatures, representing the Borg’s ability to assimilate individuals and add their biological and technological knowledge to the Collective.
This could become one of the set’s most distinctive decks, especially if its mechanics allow players to gradually turn an opponent’s forces against them.
Many Familiar Star Trek Characters Are Becoming Commanders

Although Wizards of the Coast has not yet revealed every card or the complete abilities of each commander, several legendary characters have already been confirmed for the set.
The growing lineup reportedly includes:
Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Spock, Worf, the Borg Queen, Captain James T. Kirk, Captain Benjamin Sisko, Captain Kathryn Janeway, Seven of Nine, Hoshi Sato, Dr. Beverly Crusher, Ensign Brad Boimler, Ensign Beckett Mariner, Khan Noonien Singh, and Trelane.
Each will receive a legendary creature card capable of serving as the commander of a deck.
With so many television series, movies, characters, alien civilizations, and timelines to explore, Star Trek offers Wizards of the Coast an enormous amount of material. The confirmed characters already represent several generations of the franchise, from The Original Series to newer shows such as Star Trek: Lower Decks.
Some Major Factions Are Still Missing
Selecting only four factions for the preconstructed decks was never going to satisfy every Star Trek fan.
The Romulan Star Empire and the Dominion are two major factions that could easily support their own Commander decks. The Ferengi Alliance could also inspire a strategy built around trade, profit, and Treasure tokens, with Quark serving as a natural commander.
Those factions could potentially appear through individual cards, future products, or player-built decks.
Still, the Federation, Klingons, and Borg are strong choices for the initial Commander lineup. Each represents a recognizable part of the Star Trek universe and offers a gameplay style that fits its identity.
Whether players prefer exploring new worlds with Spock, commanding a fleet with Picard, charging into battle with Worf, or assimilating the battlefield with the Borg Queen, the upcoming Commander decks should offer several very different ways to experience Star Trek through Magic: The Gathering.
