🎥 The Premise
In this imagined adaptation of Super Mario Galaxy, Mario is launched into a cosmic journey after Bowser tears Princess Peach’s castle into the depths of space. Stranded among collapsing galaxies, Mario encounters Rosalina, a mysterious guardian of the cosmos, and her star-like companions, the Lumas.
Together, they travel across fragmented galaxies to restore balance—and confront a version of Bowser that feels far more mythic than ever before. l
I couldnt go do to my knee surgery so my son went in my place!
Aaron Michael said it was awesome and fun!!!!
If The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) proved Mario could succeed on the big screen, Super Mario Galaxy would prove the franchise can transcend into something cinematic and emotionally meaningful.
Final Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5/5)
A must-watch for fans
A surprisingly powerful entry point for newcomers
And arguably the Mario movie we didn’t know we needed
Emotional Core (Rosalina Steals the Film)
The biggest surprise is how much heart the film carries.
Rosalina’s backstory—told through a storybook motif—is the emotional anchor. Her themes of:
loss
loneliness
finding purpose
…give the movie a quiet depth rarely seen in video game adaptations.
Mario himself is less talkative and more reactive, allowing the environment and supporting characters to carry emotional weight. It’s a smart shift that makes the story feel more universal.

🎭 Characters & Performances
Mario – earnest, determined, and slightly more introspective than usual
Rosalina – calm, wise, and quietly heartbreaking
Bowser – transformed into a cosmic-level threat, less comedic and more imposing
The Lumas add levity without becoming distracting, acting as both comic relief and emotional connectors.
🎼 Music & Sound Design
The orchestral score—adapted from the original game—is one of the film’s strongest assets.
Sweeping strings during galaxy travel
Soft piano themes during Rosalina’s story
Thunderous brass for Bowser’s presence
It elevates the film into something that feels genuinely epic.
OK here is the bad news!
⚖️ Where It Falls Short
Even at its best, the film isn’t perfect:
The middle act can feel episodic (jumping galaxy to galaxy)
Some side characters are underdeveloped
Younger viewers may find the tone slower compared to typical Mario energy
