Debuting back in the 1980s, Saint Seiya is, despite a lack of presence in some regions, one of the biggest anime properties in the world. Now, Japanese consumers can bite into fandom with a truly divine fast food collaboration.

First teased last week, McDonald's Japan has confirmed a new collaboration with Saint Seiya. This includes new menu items themed that boast radically different sauces and flavor profiles.

A live-action rendition of the iconic Pegasus Seiya is also present, adding a bit of over-the-top panache to the iconic property's newest brand partnership.

Saint Seiya Unlocks a Constellation of Flavor with McDonald's Japan

McDonald's Japan has finally unveiled the Saint Seiya collaboration it teased days earlier, complete with a full video promoting this unexpected mash-up. The main draw would be the new sandwiches, which combine some rather unusual flavors that might be as surprising to some as the crossover in general.

These are the Hokkaido Jaga Cheese Teriyaki, the Nagoya Meibutsu Tebasakifu Kurogoma Juicy Chicken, and the Hakata Mentai Butter Teriyaki (Hakata Marinated Roe Butter Teriyaki), all of which are rotating regional items.

The Hokkaido has a pork patty and a soy-teriyaki glaze, along with a four-cheese sauce (sourced from Hokkaido's dairy farms) and a slice of white cheddar. The Nagoya Meibutsu Tebasakifu Kurogoma Juicy Chicken has a fried chicken patty and a sweet, savory glaze, while the Hakata Mentai Butter Teriyaki has a patty similar to the Hokkaido, albeit with special roe butter.

Showing off the new eats is none other than the fitting celebrity comedian, Seiya Ishikawa, who's part of the Shimofuri Myōjō comedy duo. Energetically unleashing attacks worthy of Athena herself, he's seen dressed up in the McDonald's commercial as Pegasus Seiya, the anime's protagonist. All the while, "Pegasus Fantasy," the classic Saint Seiya theme song, can be heard, unleashing a (Mc)flurry of nostalgia for those who grew up with it.

The items are now being sold for a limited time starting on May 20, and the burgers themselves come in wrappers with Saint Seiya branding. While it might seem random to some, it's all in celebration of the franchise's extended 40th anniversary.
