Dungeons & Dragons Announces Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel Anthology

Dungeons & Dragons fans can look forward to plenty of new adventures following the launch of the Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel anthology.

The latest book for the ever-popular tabletop role-playing game features a variety of diverse new locations that pioneering Dungeon Masters can include in their games or run as entirely separate campaigns. All of the stories will exist around the magical Radiant Citadel, a mysterious city that dwells at the heart of the Ethereal Plane. Many of the book's settings and narratives are inspired by the writers' real-life personal histories and cultures. Ajit George, who wrote for Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft, and Senior Game Designer F. Wesley Schneider co-lead the project, promising that it will include some of the most diverse settings yet added to Dungeons & Dragons.

The 224-page tome will include 13 new locations, each one featuring unique monsters, lands and characters as well as gazetteers for the titular Radiant Citadel. The quests themselves will consist of different tones and will range in appropriate levels, ensuring Dungeon Masters should be able to find a story that appeals to any group. Players wanting a more light-hearted, comedic narrative can play "Salted Legacy," while "Shadow and Sun" will task Level 11 adventures with navigating an intense conflict in a city populated by angels.

"This book is stunning in its scope and ambition," said George. "It blows open the D&Dmultiverse with a fresh set of exciting adventures that serve as gateways to new lands, monsters, characters, and more. Talented writers from around the globe came together to make something truly special. There’s never been anything like this in D&D before."

Dungeons & Dragons is arguably the most recognizable modern tabletop game. The RPG exploded in popularity in recent years thanks to the accessibility of its latest Fifth Edition and the rise of long plays such as Critical Role and The Adventure Zone. Fans can expect a wealth of content in 2022 and a rule overhaul in 2024, although the specifics surrounding the changes to the game have yet to be confirmed.

Wizards of the Coast promises that more information on Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel will be revealed closer to its June 21 release date.
