DC’s New Superman Is Nearly Killed By One of His Father’s Strongest Enemies

Dark Crisis #2 by writer Joshua Williamson and artist Daniel Sampere just saw Jon Kent face off against one of his father's most powerful enemies.

As Slade Wilson / Deathstroke continued his attack against Titans Tower, he sent Cyborg Superman to deal with Jon. The brutal fight saw Jon and the robotic Kryptonian exchange heavy blows, both physical and emotional.

Dark Crisis #1 deals with the aftermath of the demise of the Justice League, with the remaining heroes working to defend Earth without its greatest defenders. Taking inspiration from his father, Clark Kent / Superman, Jon tries to form a new Justice League. After being rejected by Yara Flor / Wonder Girl and Jace Fox / Batman to form a new trinity, he assembles a team that includes Supergirl, Killer Frost, Frankenstein, Booster Gold, Blue Beetles Ted Kord and Jaime Reyes, Doctor Light, Jackson Hyde / Aquaman, Damian Wayne / Robin and Harley Quinn. However, he is still scolded by Black Adam, who refuses to join the team and tells Jon that it should really be Nightwing / Dick Grayson leading the league.

Dark Crisis truly began in Justice League #75, which saw the Justice League fall against Crisis on Infinite Earths' Pariah, the Great Darkness and the Dark Army—consisting of Eclipso, Doomsday, the Empty Hand, Nekron, Neron, Darkseid and Ares. It then picked up with a series of short stories with Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis, followed by Dark Crisis #1.

Like any other comics crossover event, Dark Crisis also features several tie-in series and one-shots, including The Flash #783-786 and I Am Batman #15. Meanwhile, the five Dark Crisis: Worlds Without Without a Justice Leagueone-shots will explore the legacy of the fallen heroes, including Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow and Batman. Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green #1 and Dark Crisis: The Dark Army #1 will see Jon and Damian, respectively, take on special missions to defeat the Great Darkness. Finally, while the main Dark Crisis seriesfocuses on Jon, Damian and the new generation of heroes, the Young Justice generation are getting their own spotlight in the six-issue Dark Crisis: Young Justice limited series.

Dark Crisis #2 goes on sale on July 5.
