Daredevil: Born Again Casts The Book of Mormon Star Nikki M. James

Marvel Studios' upcoming Disney+ original series Daredevil: Born Again has found its latest cast member in Tony Award-winning Book of Mormon star Nikki M. James.

According to Deadline, James has boarded Born Again in an undisclosed role. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio, who reprise their roles as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, respectively, from the 2015-2018 Netflix series Marvel's Daredevil. James joins fellow newcomers Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva and Sandrine Holt for the Disney+ revival series.

James is perhaps best known for portraying the character Nabulungi as part of the original Broadway cast of The Book of Mormon, the satirical stage musical from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone alongside Robert Lopez. James' performance earned her the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 2011. She has starred in numerous other stage productions, including portraying Éponine in the 2014 Broadway revival of Les Misérables. James has also appeared in a number of films and television shows, such as Spoiler Alert and Severance.

Daredevil: Born Again Is Slated for 2024

Cox and D'Onofrio starred in all three seasons of Netflix's Daredevil. Following the show's cancellation in 2018, however, their characters entered a state of limbo. Cox finally reprised his role as Matt Murdock in the 2021 MCU film Spider-Man: No Way Home (though he didn't suit up as Daredevil). Around that same time, D'Onofrio reprised his role as the Kingpin in the MCU Disney+ series Hawkeye.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed that Cox and D'Onofrio would lead the cast of a new Disney+ series titled Daredevil: Born Again, which is slated to premiere in spring 2024 as part of Phase Five of the MCU. The series is written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord. It remains to be seen if Cox and D'Onofrio will be joined by any of their fellow Netflix Daredevil alums in the Disney+ revival, such as fellow leads Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson.

At any rate, it was later in 2022 that Cox suited up as the Man Without Fear for the first time since 2018, portraying Daredevil in Marvel Studios' Phase Four Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Before Born Again arrives, both Cox and D'Onofrio are expected to reprise their respective Marvel roles in the Disney+ series Echo, a spinoff of Hawkeye. Echo was originally slated to premiere this summer as part of Phase Five. Following a recent delay, however, the Hawkeye spinoff most likely will not arrive until December at the earliest.

Marvel Studios' Daredevil: Born Again is slated to premiere its 18-episode first season on Disney+ in spring 2024.
