Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Pratt is a made man in the animated world, having attracted record-breaking billion-dollar success in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. His most recent foray into animation, The Garfield Movie, earned considerably weaker results, but is a strong Netflix hit following recent confirmation of its sequel.

Via Collider, The Garfield Movie is a global hit on Netflix, becoming popular among subscribers almost a year after it was first released on the streaming service. The film is garnering attention in various countries, particularly Singapore, where it recently landed in the Top 10.

After voicing the popular video game character, Mario, in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Pratt took on another beloved character, voicing the Monday-hating charismatic cat, Garfield. The Garfield Movie is the latest big-screen adaptation chronicling the title character, coming two decades after Bill Murray voiced the eponymous role in Garfield: The Movie. Directed by Disney veteran Mark Dindal, The Garfield Movie features Pratt alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Nicholas Hoult, Harvey Guillén, Ving Rhames, Brett Goldstein and Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus.

The Garfield Movie sees Garfield reunite with his long-lost father, Vic (Jackson), a scruffy street cat. The reunion draws Garfield out of his typically pampered and easy life to join his father in the streets and take part in a high-stakes heist that leads to considerable risk, tensions and a thrilling adventure. Pratt previously spoke of how much he enjoyed playing Garfield, admitting he was an easier character to voice than Mario due to being able to largely use his real accent for the part.

Premiering in May of last year, The Garfield Movie found success during its box-office run, earning $257.2 million worldwide against its $60 million budget. However, the latest take on the famous comic book figure garnered divisive feedback, with the film getting a 36% critical rating and 79% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite being panned by critics, The Garfield Movie recently landed a sequel. Alcon Entertainment, which produced the first film, recently purchased the rights to the comic strip and brand from Garfield creator Jim Davis, who will serve as an executive producer on the sequel.

No director or writer for The Garfield Movie sequel has been confirmed. However, Pratt will co-produce the project, while additional casting for the project is reportedly ramping up.

Fans can stream The Garfield Movie via Netflix.
