7 Transformers Who Could Put Starscream in His Place

He’s fast, dangerous, and always ready to declare himself leader. These opponents could make that victory speech a little premature.
Starscream has never had a confidence problem. Give him an opening—or just a few minutes without Megatron watching—and he’ll start planning his rise to power.
To be fair, he has the weapons to back up some of that attitude. His jet mode makes him a threat from above, and his null rays can disrupt electrical systems. Hasbro’s own character profile makes his career goal clear: Starscream wants command of the Decepticons.
But what happens when the scheming stops and he has to win a straightforward fight?
For this Your Nerd Side matchup, we’re looking at familiar Generation One portrayals, standard abilities, and seven opponents who could give Starscream a very bad day. The battlefield matters—especially when one fighter can simply take off.
1. Ultra Magnus Could Make Every Mistake Hurt
Ultra Magnus has the armor, strength, and heavy weapons to make Starscream work for a victory.
Starscream’s best approach would be to stay airborne, attack from different angles, and avoid getting trapped. Magnus would have to weather those attacks and look for an opening, using his ranged weapons to keep the Decepticon from getting too comfortable.
The real danger comes if Starscream moves in too close. Magnus has the physical power to turn a mistimed attack into a serious problem.
We’d give Magnus the edge in a prolonged confrontation. Starscream might land the first hit, but he would need a plan for what happens when Magnus keeps coming.
2. Grimlock Is a Good Reason to Stay Airborne
There are bad decisions, and then there’s challenging Grimlock to a wrestling match.
The Dinobot leader brings tremendous strength, a powerful dinosaur form, and a sword that makes close combat especially unappealing. If Grimlock gets within striking distance, Starscream’s lighter frame could become a major disadvantage.
Flight still matters here. An open battlefield would give Starscream room to evade, attack, and retreat. Grimlock would need to pressure him into making a mistake or force the fight into tighter quarters.
Our advice to Starscream: keep checking your altitude. The closer you get to those jaws, the worse this
matchup becomes.
3. Sixshot Can Keep Changing the Fight
Starscream is dangerous when he controls the pace. Sixshot would make that difficult.
With six modes in total—including his robot form—Sixshot has several ways to respond when an opponent changes tactics. His transformations include aerial, armored, and beast forms, giving him options across different kinds of terrain.
That versatility could frustrate Starscream’s usual approach. Taking to the sky would still leave him facing an opponent capable of flight. Moving toward the ground could expose him to a different combination of weapons and physical force.
Starscream would have to keep adapting while searching for a weakness. Sixshot gives him a lot more to think about than where to aim his next strafing run.
4. Shockwave Would Bring Firepower—and Patience
Starscream’s dramatic speeches probably wouldn’t buy him much time against Shockwave.
With a powerful energy cannon and a methodical approach to combat, Shockwave presents a threat that rewards careful positioning. If Starscream repeated an attack pattern or lingered long enough to line up a shot, Shockwave could exploit the opening.
That doesn’t make Starscream helpless. His mobility and null rays would give him a chance to disrupt the fight before Shockwave could finish it.
Still, this is a matchup where impatience could be expensive. We’d favor Shockwave if he could limit Starscream’s movement and make him fight on predictable terms.
5. Megatron Remains a Major Career Obstacle
Starscream has spent plenty of time imagining himself in Megatron’s place. Getting there through a direct fight would be a difficult promotion.
Megatron’s physical strength and fusion cannon give him dangerous options at both close and long range. Starscream would need to use speed, positioning, and surprise to keep the confrontation from becoming a contest of raw power.
A clever betrayal could change the circumstances. In a straightforward battle, though, Megatron would be our favorite.
Starscream’s ambition might get him into this fight. His ability to recognize a losing situation might be what gets him out.
6. Optimus Prime Has the Experience to Find an Opening
Optimus Prime would bring strength, durability, and battlefield experience to the matchup.
Starscream could make him work by staying airborne and attacking from a distance. Prime would need to track those movements, use his ranged weapons effectively, and wait for a chance to land a decisive hit.
We’d give Prime the advantage because of his discipline. Starscream’s speed could extend the fight, but Prime has the tools to punish a reckless approach.
One opening might be enough to turn an aerial attack into a very uncomfortable landing.
7. Unicron Makes the Size Difference Ridiculous
At this point, Starscream should seriously consider leaving.
Unicron is a planet-eating giant whose scale puts him far beyond an ordinary Cybertronian opponent. His immense robot form and world-devouring capabilities are central to his portrayal in the 1986 animated movie.
In conventional combat, Starscream’s standard weapons offer no convincing way to overpower something that enormous. Flying might help him avoid an immediate hit, but surviving an encounter would be a very different challenge from winning it.
Against Unicron, we’d recommend Starscream put his tactical intelligence toward finding the fastest route out.
Starscream fans, make your case: which of these fights could he turn around—and how much scheming would it take?
