Things are finally swinging in the right direction for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The highly-anticipated third and final installment in Marvel’s and Sony’s animated franchise has long been victim of delays, of all sorts, but Miles Morales is stacking good days as of late.
Another round of positive news has arrived for the iconic franchise, and this time it’s thanks to Morales’ mentor and elder Spider-Man variant, Peter B. Parker. The actor that voices Parker in all three movies, Jake Johnson, spoke with The Direct and what he had to say spun a web around the hearts of rightfully impatient Marvel fans.
When asked if he’d begun recording any lines yet, the answer was exactly what fans had been waiting to hear.
Has Beyond the Spider-Verse Reached a New Threshold?
“Yes,” he said. “I've started recording. And it's excellent."
This is critical news, and for a couple of reasons. In 2024, Johnson told the media he hadn’t recorded any lines for Peter B. Parker in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, noting “that has changed” as of late.
The comment he made two years ago led to speculation his character may have been written out of the film, though that wouldn’t entirely make sense, when you consider the final scene of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, when Peter B. Parker and his infant daughter, Mayday Parker, was seen joining Gwen and other allies — from both the original and the sequel — to find Morales on Earth-42 and save him.
It’s good to see that Johnson will return to reprise the role of Parker, and not simply because it makes the most sense, but also because Parker owes Morales in a big way after the events of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, making this a mission of redemption and forgiveness for Parker.
That, however, does not mean he’ll end the movie alive, because if you read between the tea leaves of his next comment, it makes you wonder which Spider-Person might not make it to the credits in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The Fate of Peter B. Parker Sounds ... Ominous?

When asked what kind of crumbs he could feed the Marvel masses regarding Parker’s role and/or fate in the upcoming film, Johnson’s reply can be interpreted as either optimistic or ominous.
"I'll say they're honoring him in a very exciting way, and it makes me really happy,” he briefly explained. “He's a character I love, and I trust him in Phil [Lord’s] and Chris [Miller’s] hands, and they're giving him a lot of respect. And it's cool to see."
With that, there are two huge updates that have arrived in less than 60 days of each other.
In February, the film was confirmed to have begun its animation stage after completely overhauling the creative process and production roles. In April, one of the key voice actors made it clear he’s actively in the booth as we speak. At this rate, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse might actually make good on its latest expected release date of June 18, 2027.
That’s music to everyone’s ears, and it creates a noticeable tingle in everyone’s webs.
