Marvel is ready to take Tony Stark's legacy into its next chapter. The publisher will officially be releasing a new Iron Man series in early 2026.
Announced at the Marvel's Next Big Thing Panel at this year's New York Comic Con, Marvel revealed that Joshua Williamson and Carmen Carnero will take the lead for Iron Man #1, releasing on Jan. 28. Described as a new era for Tony Stark, it will kick off when Iron Man's plan to shape his legacy is twisted into a more sinister opportunity to weaponize the 'next Tony Stark.' Described as telling the story of a clash of genius, the series introduces a new archenemy along with some familiar faces and a 'shocking' comeback. Marvel also revealed the main cover for the first issue, along with special variant art, character designs, and preview pages.

Marvel's solicit for the new series teases how Tony Stark will face a mysterious new villain — and a familiar femme fatale with A.I.M. in her arsenal. "The unapologetic Iron Man is a once-in-a-lifetime hero – but the beating heart behind the armor is a once-in-a-century genius. Years ago, Tony Stark was knocking on death’s door, so he created the Iron Man armor to survive!"
Iron Man's new comic adventures will see Stark in life-or-death situations with his legacy left hanging in the balance. "What happens the next time death comes calling? What weapon does he create then? What if…someone else creates it first? These questions have haunted Tony for years, a ticking time bomb inside of him waiting to explode. Femme fatale Madame Masque has also asked these questions, and with the power of Advanced Idea Mechanics behind her… she’s ready to create the next great weapon."
Iron Man Writer Teases New Marvel Comics Story
The new Iron Man ongoing series sees superstar writer Joshua Williamson making his powerful return to Marvel, and he shared his excitement for the new story in a statement published by Marvel. "I am a huge Iron Man fan. A massive Iron Man fan... and I knew it was time. I absolutely had to do this," shared Williamson.
"Part of our tagline for this book is that Tony Stark is the most dangerous weapon in the Marvel Universe. When he went into the cave, Tony built the armor... but after I thought about it more, the armor wasn’t what he built in the cave. Tony built Tony."
Iron Man #1 goes on sale Jan. 28, 2026 from Marvel Comics.
