X-Men '97's Revamped Character Designs Revealed in New Look

Latest Show:

Shared on X by X-Men Film News, the images reveal the new, revamped character designs for X-Men members Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Beast, Gambit, Jubilee, Sunspot, Morph, Rogue, Bishop and Magneto. While similar to how they looked in X-Men: The Animated Series, the new character designs have sharper lines and are a bit more refined and detailed.

What Is X-Men '97?

X-Men '97 serves as a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series, which ran on Fox Kids Network for five seasons and 76 episodes between October 1992 and September 1997. The animated continuation will pick up several months after the series finale of X-Men: The Animated Series, "Graduation Day," with Mister Sinister set as the show's primary antagonist. While plot details are being kept largely under wraps, it has been confirmed that Magneto will be joining the titular team in Professor X's absence and that the attempt on Charles Xavier's life in the original series finale has "led to this wave of increased sympathy towards mutants and understanding."

X-Men '97 was one of the first X-Men projects Marvel Studios put into development after regaining the film and television rights to the characters from 20th Century Fox. However, ahead of its Disney+ debut later this year, Marvel has begun to tease the existence of mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani)being confirmed as a mutant in the finale of her show. Marvel has also introduced multiversal variants of Professor X and Beast in the movies Doctor Strange in the Multiverse and The Marvels, played by returning X-Men actors Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammer, respectively. Deadpool 3, set to hit theaters this summer, will be the first live-action X-Men movie produced by Marvel Studios.

X-Men Voice Actor Teases Season 2

The first season of X-Men '97 will consist of 10 episodes, while a second season remains in production. Lenore Zann, who voices Rogue in X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men '97, recently revealed in December 2023 that she was "back in the studio continuing to record Season 2 of X-Men 97 for [Marvel Studios] - this time in Burbank. Grateful to be back and I jes' know y'all are gonna love our new show as much as I do." Prior to this, Zann teased that fans are in for "a wild ride" with X-Men '97.

X-Men '97 is expected to premiere in 2024 on Disney+.
