Actor Chris Hemsworth has made his mark on the big screen as the God of Thunder, a hero to those both within and outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After a long run as the son of Odin, Hemsworth recently suggested Thor: Love and Thunder may be the last time he wields the Asgardian's hammer.
In an interview on Wired, Hemsworth discussed the experience filming the upcoming Thor film alongside Taika Waititi. While he described it as being a fun experience, he expressed he was ready to call the film his last one in the MCU. "Played that character for ten, eleven, years now, and each time it's been new and exciting, and this was no exception to that. It felt very fresh and it felt like we were trying something we hadn't tried before. I was, in Taika's words, I think a wacky, wild, romantic comedy set in space."
Hemsworth made his debut as the God of Thunder in 2011's Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh. Since then, he has appeared in eight films across the Infinity Saga. While many of them have been great successes, there has been at least one low point. Namely, Thor: The Dark World, which is often cited as one of the least critically successful films in the franchise.
The actor himself recently admitted the second instalment in Thor's solo film series left him bored. Not because of the film per se, but because of what he was unable to do in it as an actor. He explained, "I didn't think I grew the character in any way, I didn't think I showed an audience something unexpected and different. And then when [Thor: Ragnarok] came along, out of my own frustration of what I had done -- and this is not on any other director or anyone, this was my own performance -- I really wanted to break the mold."
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters on July 8.
