Spider-Man 3: Tom Holland Posts First Costumed Set Photo As Filming Begins

Marvel's Spider-Man starTom Holland has posted the first look at him back in costume on the set Spider-Man 3. In the photo (which you can see below), Holland's Spider-Man is seen doing one of his iconic Spidey poses in front of a blue-screen background. Holland keeps things timely by showing his Spider-Man wearing a protective face mask over his superhero mask, with the caption on the photo reading: "Wear a mask, I'm wearing two..." Leave it to Tom Holland to give a public health PSA a nice twist of some Spider-Man wit!

Spider-Man 3's cast has been keeping Marvel fans thrilled as they finally get to work on the third film, following production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tom Holland already posted a teaser .gif of himself in costume, dancing on set; his co-star Jacob Batalon (Ned) teased the shocking twists of the script in a video - while also showing off his new look. All in all, the cast of the Sony/Marvel Spider-Man films tend to have a pretty good time together making these films, often sharing fun behind-the-scenes looks or pranking each other on social media. The same goes for the new co-stars that join the franchise: after Spider-Man: Far From Home, Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal pretty much formed a social media bromance.

The intrigue surrounding Spider-Man 3's story has jumped exponentially in the last month or so - with good reason. We've learned that Jamie Foxx will once again play Electro, and that Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange will be featured in the thre equel, as well. That's led Marvel fans to speculate that this next Spider-Man film will be part of the larger Phase 4 storyline about reality fracturing, and a larger Marvel Cinematic Universe suddenly opening up. Not only that, but Foxx's Electro is a casting that suggests Sony could be building a live-action Spider-Verse franchise, which could see franchise alumni like Andre Garfield and Toby Maguire comic back for some kind of event film.

That's the big-scale view; on a more grounded front, Spider-Man 3 has been rumored to introduce a live-action Kraven The Hunter, while Scorpion has been rumored as a secondary villain. How those two concepts fit together is anyone's guess.

Marvel's Spider-Man 3will be released in theaters on December 17, 2021.
