Secret Invasion star Emilia Clarke shared a new image of her Marvel Cinematic Universe character as she seemingly contemplates a major decision.
Posted to the actor's personal Instagram, the images showcase G'iah, a young disillusioned Skrull, as she stares forlornly out a window. The photo in question highlights one of the costumes she dons when in human form, a disguise she likely uses to move about the Earth unnoticed. While no significant story details can be gleaned from the post, Clarke does promise that the "badass-ing" will begin shortly.
At the time of writing, little is known about G'iah beyond the fact that she will likely stand against Nick Fury and his efforts to protect the world. Having grown up the daughter of Talos, a Skrull General, Clarke's character has watched her people become sidelined in their bid to find a new home. After years of unfulfilled promises, she goes rogue and joins a group of revolutionaries who want to take over the world by force.
Secret Invasion Forces G'iah Into Tough Place
"She's a refugee kid who's had Talos for a dad, you know what I mean?" Clarke explained when asked about her character's motivations. "Maybe the fact that we didn't know he had a kid up until this point tells you everything you need to know about their relationship." How this relationship will evolve over the course of Secret Invasion's narrative remains to be seen.
While many fans may know Secret Invasion marks Clarke's first foray into the MCU, her character has actually already made an appearance. G'iah is briefly seen in the 2019 movie Captain Marvel as a young child looking for safety amongst a group of fellow Skrull refugees.
Set during the modern-day MCU, Secret Invasion will follow Nick Fury, once again played by Samuel L. Jackson, as he embarks upon his most dangerous mission yet. Having grown tired of empty and broken promises, many Skrulls are attempting to make the Earth their own by assuming the identities of powerful individuals around the globe. Without his usual arsenal of resources, and not knowing who he can trust, Fury must once again step into action in what could be his final mission.
Secret Invasion is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ on 21 June.
