A new video from the set of Ms. Marvel features Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan dressed in Captain Marvel's costume, as a nod to Marvel comics.
A new video from the set of Ms. Marvel showcases a key element of the comics in play.
The Iman Vellani Brasil account on Twitter posted a video of Iman Vellani on the set of Ms. Marvel climbing atop the roof of a house as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Ms. Marvel. Her character wears a red and blue costume similar to Captain Marvel's Avengers: Endgame.
This scene marks another element from the first story arc of Ms. Marvel, "No Normal," that will come into play in the series. In "No Normal," when Kamala Khan first discovers her shapeshifting powers, she subconsciously transforms into the spitting image of her hero Ms. Marvel -- albeit in Carol Danvers' black and yellow costume.
Kamala donning a Captain Marvel costume pays homage to that plot point and, quite fittingly, hints at Kamala's own homemade costume, which has the same red and blue color scheme.
Created by Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie, Kamala Khan first appeared in Ms. Marvel #1 in 2014. Since then, she's become one of Marvel's most popular characters, even appearing in animated projects such as Marvel Rising and the Marvel's Avengers video game from Square Enix. Vellani is set to reprise her role in Captain Marvel 2, alongside Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau.
