Michael aims big—really big. It’s not just a biopic; it’s an attempt to capture the mythology, genius, and contradictions of Michael Jackson. At its best, it delivers electrifying performance sequences and a convincing central portrayal. At its weakest, it struggles under the weight of its subject.
FONSECA's Thoughts:
This is a film about presence—not just a person. When it lets the music and movement speak, it’s powerful. When it tries to explain everything, it loses some of that magic.

I saw it and want to say thank you to the promotors and Theater for accomidating my siitting arrangements.

What Works
1. Jaafar Jackson’s Performance
Jaafar Jackson carries the film with uncanny physicality
The dance sequences feel authentic, not imitated
He captures both the precision and fragility of Michael Jackson
2. Concert & Rehearsal Scenes
These are the film’s strongest assets
High production value recreations of iconic eras (Thriller, Bad, Dangerous)
Feels closest to being “in the room” with MJ
3. Sound & Music Integration
Smart use of original tracks without over-relying on nostalgia
Music drives narrative rather than interrupting it
Where It Struggles
1. Narrative Focus
The film tries to cover too much of MJ’s life
Moves quickly between childhood, superstardom, and controversy
Emotional beats don’t always land because of pacing
2. Handling of Controversy
This is the tightrope—and the film feels cautious
Some viewers may feel it avoids depth
Others may appreciate the restraint
3. Tone Imbalance
Shifts between celebration and introspection aren’t always smooth
At times feels like two films:
A performance-driven spectacle
A psychological portrait

🎬 Direction & Style
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film leans into:
Gritty realism in backstage/family scenes
Glossy spectacle in performance moments
That contrast works visually—but not always narratively.
🎯 Final Verdict
Rating: 7.5 / 10
⭐ Must-watch for fans of Michael Jackson
🎧 Exceptional for music and performance lovers
⚖️ Less satisfying if you’re looking for a fully balanced, deeply investigative biopic
