Jessica Jones Star Addresses Potential MCU Return: 'I Have No Idea'

Krysten Ritter, who starred as the titular character in Marvel's Jessica Jones between 2015 and 2019, has denied any knowledge of a potential return to the character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper.

Appearing on Michael Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast, Ritter shared that she has not heard about any plans to bring Jessica Jones back, but said she thinks fans would be very happy if there were, and that she would be enthusiastic to return to the character. "I have no idea; I hope so!" Ritter. "I think that people love Jessica; I know because I live it. Marvel is so secretive -- I am just putting that out there that, of course, I would be there in a second. I would have my boots and jacket ready to rock."

There had been persistent rumors that the Marvel Netflix characters, especially the fan favorite Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Jessica Jones, would make the transition to the main MCU ever since their shows, along with Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher, were canceled. While each of the shows made reference to major MCU events, such as the 2012 alien attack of New York seen in The Avengers, whether they are canon to the MCU remains ambiguous. Charlie Cox, who played Matt Murdock/Daredevil in all three seasons of his titular series, eventually made the transition to the mainstream MCU when he reprized his role as the fan favorite blind lawyer/vigilante in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.

Will Jessica Jones Return to the MCU?

Cox was shortly followed by costar Vincent D'Onofrio's reappearance as the villainous Wilson Fisk in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, in which the Kingpin was revealed to have a connection to Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez, aka Echo. The upcoming Echo solo series is set to see them both reprise their roles again, and will reportedly lead into Daredevil: Born Again, a reboot serieswhich has been rumored to feature Ritter's Jessica Jones in a supporting or recurring capacity. According to one industry insider, "Daredevil [in his Echo appearances] is looking for Jessica Jones," adding that "they're laying the groundwork to bring back Ritter."

Ritter is not the only Jessica Jones alum who would be up for reprising their role. David Tennant, who appeared as the mind-controlling villain Kilgrave, was asked last year if he would consider returning to the character if Marvel asked. Tennant shared that he believed it would be "difficult" from a writing perspective but that he would be excited if the writers could make it work.

All three seasons of AKA Jessica Jones are available to stream now on Disney+.
