Actor Karan Soni says Deadpool & Wolverine featured a different story before Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019.
Speaking to Screen Rant at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, Soni, who reprises his role as taxi driver Dopinder in Deadpool & Wolverine, shared some details about the Fox version. "I think it's online a little bit, so I can [share]," he said. "It was going to be originally a road trip movie where Deadpool tries to save Christmas. So we all go to the North Pole." The actor also noted that Hugh Jackman was always going to be part of the movie.
Soni also revealed he was surprised when the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer was released. "I didn't even know it was coming. They're not telling me anything, which is good,"the actor said before explaining that he previously blurted out the Christmas plot to impress a date. "Honestly, to bring it back to Roshan [Sethi], on our first date, I recapped the plot of Deadpool 3, which I wasn't supposed to. All to say, I didn't get a script this time. They didn't even tell me the trailer was coming out. I got to watch it when it came out, and I'm excited to be a small part of it."
Deadpool & Wolverine Promises Several Surprise Cameos
Soni previously talked about the cameos in the upcoming film, saying that fans would be surprised. "This new MCU version is ultra-secretive," the actor said. "There are a lot of surprises. Let's just say a lot of people traveled to London." While speculation is rife about which stars will appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, official details remain scarce. The only confirmed actor is Jennifer Garner, who will reprise her role as Elektra Natchios. The cast also includes Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Morena Baccarin as Vanessa.
Per the official synopsis, Deadpool & Wolverine follows a disillusioned Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), who is pulled back into the superhero during a crisis. "After facing professional setbacks during a midlife crisis, Wade Wilson officially retires Deadpool and becomes a used car salesman. But when his friends, family, and the world are at stake, Deadpool decides to bring his katanas out of retirement. He recruits an unwilling and wary Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to not only fight for their survival but, ultimately, their legacy."
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in theaters worldwide on July 26, 2024.
