The X-Files Is Returning With a New Comic Series — and a TV Reboot Is Also on the Way

The X-Files is preparing for another comeback, with both a new comic book series and a live-action reboot moving forward.

Before the next television version arrives, fans will first get a new X-Files comic from Dynamite Entertainment. Writer Joe Harris and artist Riley Brown are leading the project, which is now expected to arrive earlier than originally planned.

The comic had previously been set for a February 2027 release, but it has now been moved up to December 2026. An exact release date has not yet been announced.

Although story details are still limited, Dynamite has already revealed early artwork and character designs. Most importantly for longtime fans, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are returning in the comic, with the characters once again resembling the iconic versions made famous by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Dynamite has increasingly embraced legacy television properties in its comic lineup, and The X-Files now joins that growing list.

Mulder and Scully Return to the Page

Joe Harris has a long connection with the franchise and has expressed his excitement about taking on the new series.

Harris described The X-Files as one of the most important supernatural and science-fiction franchises in television history and said that writing new adventures for Mulder and Scully is a major honor.

A full official synopsis for the new comic has not yet been released, so much of the storyline remains a mystery.

For X-Files fans, that may actually be fitting.

After all, mystery has always been a major part of the franchise.

Ryan Coogler's X-Files Reboot Is Still Moving Forward

The comic isn't the only new X-Files project in development.

A new live-action reboot from filmmaker Ryan Coogler is also moving forward for Hulu.

According to the information released so far, the pilot episode has finished filming and entered post-production, although there is still no official premiere date.

The reboot will reportedly follow two highly accomplished but very different FBI agents who are assigned to a long-closed division investigating unexplained phenomena.

That setup clearly echoes the original Mulder-and-Scully dynamic while giving the new series room to introduce its own characters and storylines.

The two lead FBI agents will be played by Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler.

Their character names have not yet been revealed.

The supporting cast is also expected to include Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Lochlyn Munro, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel D. Montgrand and Sofia Grace Clifton.

Coogler is set to both write and direct the pilot episode.

The Truth Is Still Out There

Between a new comic series and a new television reboot, The X-Files is clearly entering another era.

The Dynamite comic will bring Mulder and Scully back first, with a release planned for December 2026, while Ryan Coogler's live-action reboot continues through post-production.

There are still plenty of unanswered questions — including when the Hulu series will premiere and how closely it will connect to the original show.

But for fans of conspiracies, aliens and unexplained mysteries, The X-Files is once again giving audiences a reason to believe.
