New images have revealed the best look yet at the new Toxie. Starring Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, the reboot of The Toxic Avenger is coming to theaters on Aug. 29, 2025.
Previously, very little had been revealed from the remake. The only shot that's been released of Toxie was from behind the character, keeping his appearance mostly a mystery. Per Entertainment Weekly, that has changed with brand-new images released of the new Toxie. Check out the new photos below.

In the film, Dinklage plays Winston Gooze, a chemical factory janitor who becomes transformed into a monstrous mutant after a freak industrial accident. He uses his newfound superhuman strength to become a vigilante, targeting the town's criminals. EW reports that actor and movement artist Luisa Guerreiro provides the physical performance of Toxie underneath the makeup and costume.
Toxic Crusaders Inspired the New Toxie's Design
Director Macon Blair said of the new design, "The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd [Kaufman]'s original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature, with some influence from the Toxic Crusaders cartoon's look, while also trying to do something new and weird and lovable with Toxie's design. I love what Millennium FX did with it — part human, part mutant, all heart."
The original Toxic Avenger movie, released in 1984, was co-directed by Kaufman and Michael Herz. Mark Torgl starred as Melvin, a health club janitor who gets transformed into the titular vigilante, portrayed by Mitchell Cohen. The film became a beloved cult classic, spawning several sequels along with the beloved cartoon series, Toxic Crusaders. There has also been a stage musical made that was inspired by the film.
The movie also stars Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Sarah Niles, Julia Davis, and Julian Kostov. Kaufman and Herz produced alongside Mary Parent and Alex Garcia.
"Yeah, it's, it's an insane cast," Tremblay previously told ComicBook.com about the film. "I mean, that was such a fun movie. I mean, it's incredible. I think people are gonna have such a fun time watching that. It's something else. I'm super excited for people to see it."
The Reboot Will Carry On the Over-the-Top Violence
"[The film has] Itchy & Scratchy-type violence," Blair also teased about the movie's violence, per Empire. "We’ve got a guy that gets his head stuffed in a car engine and it kind of grinds his head up. That was a gag I was fond of."
He added, "I kept expecting Legendary to say, ‘This is not what we want,’ but they kept agreeing to the things I pitched, [which] embraced the silliness and trashiness, while wanting it to be an enjoyable, crowd-pleasing, rock ’n’ roll fun time.”
The new Toxic Avenger will be released in theaters on Aug. 29, 2025.
