Showtime's upcoming Dexter: Resurrection spin-off series has cast The Suicide Squad star David Dastmalchian. Details on his role have recently been revealed, with the show beginning filming earlier this year in New York.
Deadline reports that Dastmalchian will appear as a guest star, playing "Gareth" in Dexter: Resurrection, which will see Michael C. Hall return as the titular serial killer. The third spin-off to follow the original Dexter series, Resurrection will reportedly continue the story of the franchise's first spin-off, Dexter: New Blood. Returning cast members include James Remar as Dexter's father, David Zayas as Angel Batista, and Jack Alcott as Dexter's son. The series is scheduled to premiere sometime this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime.
Dastmalchian joins a slew of new additions to the Dexter: Resurrections cast, including A-list celebrities such as Uma Thurman as Charley, Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva and Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera. Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet and Neil Patrick Harris will also appear as guest stars.
Dastmalchian is known for his roles in several superhero movies, including Thomas Schiff in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, Kurt and Veb in the Ant-Man franchise, Abra Kadabra in The Flash television series, and, most recently, Polka-Dot Man in 2021's The Suicide Squad. He has also appeared in three of acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve's films: Prisoners, Blade Runner 2049, and Dune. He is also known for playing William L. Borden in Oppenheimer.
One Original Dexter Star Is Unlikely to Return for Spin-Off

The Dexter franchise premiered in 2006. The original series focused on Dexter Morgan's life as a forensic technician with a secret life as a vigilante serial killer, and Michael C. Hall has reprised his role in all the spin-offs so far. One of the show's original actors who hasn't stayed with the series after its original run is Jennifer Carpenter, who originated the role of Dexter's adoptive sister, Debra Morgan.
When asked about a potential return for Dexter: Resurrection, Carpenter suggested that she was finished with the franchise going forward. "I am pretty focused where I am, and I feel like I've completed that box. I'm proud of it," she said. "I hope that they're having a wonderful time. And I'm so happy for the fans to have more to chew on." Carpenter played Debra in the original series of Dexter and New Blood, but Molly Brown took over the role for Dexter: Original Sin. It remains to be seen if the character will appear in Resurrection.
Dexter: Resurrection is set for a summer release on Paramount+ with Showtime.
