The Mandalorian's Moff Gideon Is Reportedly Getting a Major Season 3 Upgrade

The Mandalorian's main villain Moff Gideon is getting a major upgrade in Season 3, if a new report is to be believed.

starwarsnewsnet.com cites one or more unnamed sources who claim that Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) will sport a new suit of armor in the Disney+ series' third season. This new protective ensemble supposedly boasts a black and red color scheme and includes a helmet and jetpack. The helmet's design is said to resemble the established Mandalorian aesthetic only with several key differences, such as six horns and red eyeholes. Lucasfilm is yet to officially comment on the report, which means it should be taken with a grain of salt for now.

In contrast to the current speculation surrounding Moff Gideon's armor, Esposito previously promised fans they'd see a softer side of the antagonist when The Mandalorian returned to screens. The star hinted that the ruthless Imperial leader will appear "vulnerable" at least once during the upcoming batch of episodes. Esposito declined to provide any further information regarding Moff Gideon's emotional arc in Season 3, saying that fans will need to be patient until the premiere arrives.

That said, the Breaking Bad veteran was more forthcoming about what drives Moff Gideon in an earlier interview."[Gideon] has an agenda all of his own," Esposito said. "He's been a warden of a certain part of the galaxy. He wants to bring all the other wardens together for what reason? Why can't he just live in peace in his own little piece of paradise? There's gotta be a reason that he's bringing all of them together because he must have an agenda of his own."

Fans will have to wait until February 2023 to discover what the next stage of Moff Gideon's plan is. This is the release window that Lucasfilm and Disney+ have announced for The Mandalorian Season 3's debut, although both parties remain tight-lipped on when the first episode will air. A recent report claimed that multiple sources close to the production independently confirmed Feb. 22 as the premiere date, however, Disney+ representatives have since debunked this.

Regardless of when The Mandalorian Season 3 finally kicks off, star Pedro Pascal assured fans the wait will be worth it in a recent interview. "I mean it's epic, it's definitely epic," Pascal said. "And we're going to get a lot of things that were introduced into the storytelling early in Season 1, themes and ideas that you'll remember once we get into [the] full fruition of Season 3."
