The Flash director Andy Muschietti has hinted that he may be helming Batman's first cinematic outing in the DC Universe, The Brave and the Bold.
While speaking to Narcity Canada's Senior global editor, Josh K. Elliott, on Twitter, Muschietti was asked what kind of spin he would want to put on the Dark Knight if he took his Batman in a "Brave and Bold direction." This came after Elliot pointed out that the director had inherited both Tim Burton and Zack Snyder's Batmen. Muschietti cryptically replied, "Oh, that's... I don't think I can talk to that...yet." It should be noted that there is currently no official word regarding Muschietti or anyone else directing The Brave and the Bold.
What is the Brave and the Bold?
The Brave and the Bold is one of several movie projects announced by DC Studios co-CEO and co-president James Gunn earlier this year. The film will take cues from the 2006 Batmanstory arc, "Batman and Son," with Gunn saying, "This [film] is the introduction of the DCU Batman. Of Bruce Wayne and also introduces our favorite Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a bitch." No casting news for The Brave and the Bold has been announced, though Guardians of the Galaxy franchise star Karen Gillan expressed interest in playing Poison Ivy in the DCU.
Nicolas Cage's Superman Cameo in The Flash
While The Flash has Burton's Batman with Michael Keaton, the film also has the director's pick for his canceled 1998 Superman film. In May, Muschietti revealed that Nicolas Cage would play Superman in a cameo appearance. "Nic was absolutely wonderful," Muschietti said. "Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it… I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon." The director added, "He is a massive Superman fan. A comic book fanatic." Previously, Cage named Superman one of the roles he most wished he could play.
The Flash arrives in theaters on June 16, 2023. The Brave and the Bold currently does not have a release date.
