The Batman Part II Feels Closer Than Ever After Major Filming Update

The Batman Part II Could Begin Filming Very Soon

Farrell, who plays Oswald Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin, recently shared that production may be starting within days.

“They start, I think, in a week,” Farrell told Collider.

That is major news for fans who have been worried the sequel could face another delay. The Batman Part II is currently scheduled for release in 2027, and this update suggests the movie may still be on track.

One of the biggest reasons for the long wait has been Robert Pattinson’s busy schedule. Pattinson has several major projects lined up, including Mickey 17, Marty Supreme, Die, My Love, Dune: Part Three, and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. With so many films on his calendar, finding time to return as Bruce Wayne has likely been a challenge.

Now, it appears Pattinson may finally have the opening needed to fully return to Gotham.

Colin Farrell Praises the Script

Farrell also had high praise for the sequel’s script and for director Matt Reeves.

“It’ll be an amazing set to be on,” Farrell said. “The script, I’ve said before, is extraordinary. It really is. Matt is just so brilliant, and he cares so deeply about the stories he tells.”

That kind of praise should give fans even more reason to be excited. Reeves’ first Batman film was praised for its darker detective tone, grounded world-building, and strong performances. If Farrell’s comments are any indication, the sequel may continue building on that same atmosphere.

Farrell’s Penguin May Have a Smaller Role

While Farrell is expected to return as The Penguin, his role in the sequel may not be as large as some fans expected.

“I will fly to London in four or five weeks,” Farrell said. “I haven’t got much to do on it, but I’ll go for four or five weeks. I’ll be there for a few weeks. I’m so excited to see it as a fan.”

That suggests Farrell’s Penguin will be part of the story, but he may not be one of the central villains this time around.

Still, his return helps connect The Batman Part II to both the original film and the wider Gotham universe that Reeves has been building.

The Batman Universe Keeps Growing

The sequel is expected to bring back Robert Pattinson as Batman, with Andy Serkis also returning as Alfred. Reports have also connected several new names to the project, including Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, and Tom Rhys Harries.
