Taylor Swift is rumored to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine. While her involvement remains unconfirmed, the singer's role in the film may have been revealed.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman (via ComicBookMovie), the Blonde Phantom was one of the roles that came up when Swift met with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Marvel has previously considered adding the character to its superhero slate. Scarlett Johansson was considered for several characters before debuting as the Black Widow in Iron Man 2, including Scarlet Witch and the Blonde Phantom.
Johansson still has a connection to the Blonde Phantom. Per Richtman, the actor will produce a spy series featuring the character set in Las Vegas in the 1950s. The Blonde Phantom, also known as Louise Grant, is a lesser-known character from Marvel Comics' Golden Age, first appearing in 1946's All Select Comics #11. Created by Stan Lee and Syd Shores, she was originally the secretary for private detective Mark Mason.
The Blonde Phantom Is A Unique Superhero
Louise secretly becomes the Blonde Phantom to help her boss by fighting crime.Although she doesn't have superpowers, the character is highly athletic, skilled in martial arts, and armed with a .45-caliber pistol. Wearing a glamorous red evening gown with a slit for mobility, a black domino mask, and high heels, Blonde Phantom was a unique superhero of her time. She used her investigative skills to solve crimes and often saved her boss, Mason, who didn't know her secret identity.
Despite fading into obscurity after her debut, Blonde Phantom returned in The Sensational She-Hulk in the late 1980s, revealing she had married Mark and grown old in real-time. As Jennifer Walters' legal secretary, she often reminisced about her past as the Blonde Phantom. If the character does make more than a cameo appearance in the MCU by way of Swift, she would likely appear in a period-specific piece.
Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds recently addressed the cameo rumors surrounding the movie. "You know, movies like this... there's so much speculation about so many people that might end up in the film," he said when Taylor Swift was mentioned. "I saw one that was convinced that Elvis is in the movie. Anything can happen, and that's sort of what I love about this universe. Surprises are the essence of Deadpool."
Rumors of Swift's involvement in Deadpool & Wolverine have persisted for months, with director Shawn Levy previously addressing a possible appearance from the singer as Dazzler. "I can't even believe that you would dare ask me a question you know I can't answer. You know I can't answer," he said. "The proliferation of rumors about who is and isn't in this movie is fabulous. Because no one will ever know the truth until July 26," he added.
Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters worldwide on July 26.
