Some family traditions involve recipes. This one involves Dracula.

Ryan Murphy has revealed a new vampire project called Brides of Blood, telling Vanity Fair that it will honor his grandmother and the stories they loved together. Vanity Fair

For a title that sounds like the world’s most dangerous wedding invitation, that is a surprisingly sweet beginning.

A Family Connection Behind the Fangs

Murphy explained that his grandmother’s favorites were musicals and Dracula. Sharing those interests taught him early that loving one kind of entertainment didn’t mean giving up another. Vanity Fair

Honestly, that sounds like a perfectly reasonable household: a little singing, a little screaming, and absolutely no opening the curtains without checking first.

What catches our attention here isn’t just the prospect of another vampire series. It’s the personal connection. There is something appealing about a creator returning to the stories that first made them a fan—not simply picking another familiar monster to put on a poster.

Is This Actually a Dracula Series?

The Dracula connection is intriguing, but a complete premise has not been confirmed.

The title naturally suggests Dracula’s brides, and Murphy’s comments certainly point toward that territory. Horror outlets have made the same connection, although Dread Central framed it as a likely interpretation rather than a fully announced storyline. Dread Central

That distinction matters. A familiar name, an intriguing title and a few clues are not the same thing as an official synopsis.

Still, the possibility gives us something worth getting excited about. A series that lets the women in Dracula’s world drive the action could be more interesting than another straightforward retelling focused entirely on the Count.

Give them competing ambitions. Give them dangerous relationships. Give them something to fight for beyond standing around a castle waiting for the next unfortunate visitor.

That is a show we would be curious to watch.

The Vampire Crowd Is Already Busy

Murphy would be entering a genre with plenty of recent activity. Ryan Coogler’s Sinners turned its vampire story into a major theatrical success, while AMC’s Anne Rice adaptations have continued with The Vampire Lestat. Motion Picture Association

For Your Nerd Side, the appeal of vampires is how much room there is to play. They can be terrifying predators, tragic romantics, power-hungry aristocrats—or several of those things before breakfast.

But atmosphere only gets a series so far. Beautiful costumes, candlelit rooms and sharp teeth are a great introduction. The characters still need to make us care what happens when the sun comes up.

When Will ‘Brides of Blood’ Arrive?

According to Bloody Disgusting, Murphy previously said he planned to begin filming his vampire project in Europe in December 2026. That is a production target, not a premiere date. Bloody Disgusting!

His Vanity Fair announcement did not include a cast, release date or viewing platform. Vanity Fair

For now, the title has our attention. The next test is what Murphy does with it.

Bring the gothic atmosphere. Bring the family inspiration. Most importantly, bring characters worth staying up past midnight for.
