RUMOR: Deadpool 3 Could Feature Multiple Original Fox X-Men

This weeks Your Nerd Side Show:

The X-Men are finally coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Deadpool 3.

According to a tweet from trusted scooper CanWeGetSomeToast, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will not be the only cast member from 2000's X-Men to appear in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe threequel. Halle Berry, Famke Janssen and James Marsden are also rumored to be reprising their roles as X-Men members Storm, Jean Grey, and Cyclops, respectively. In a separate tweet, CanWeGetSomeToast added that two villains -- "One from the Fox X-Men movies and one from the MCU" will also appear in Deadpool 3. The scooper refused to disclose the identities of the other two returning characters, only stating that fans "would never guess who."

The latest Deadpool 3 rumor comes shortly Berry shared an image on Instagram of herself with cropped silver hair. The online post led to many fans speculating that she would be returning as the weather-controlling mutant Storm in an upcoming Marvel project. Janssen also recently teased a return to the Marvel Universe. In a recent interview, the actor proclaimed that she loves "Jean Grey, and the Phoenix, very much. So much." She also stated that because the MCU is now tackling the multiverse that the door was now open for her to return as Jean Grey. "Who knows? In that universe, anyone -- multiverses, whatever -- can happen," she said. "But I'm grateful that I got the opportunity to play her, five times in five different movies, so I'm good."

Wolverine and the Original X-Men

Jackman, Berry, Janssen and Marsden first appeared as their respective mutants in the 2000 film X-Men, returning for the sequels -- X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). Jackman and Janssen also appeared onscreen together in The Wolverine (2013). It is unknown at this time how big Berry, Janssen and Marsden's roles will be in Deadpool 3. Wolverine is expected to be a major part of the threequel, with Jackman previously teasing that time travel will be used to bring Logan back from the grave.

No Improv for the Merc with a Mouth

Principal photography on Deadpool 3 began on May 22, 2023, in London under the working title "Tidal Wave." Shawn Levy is directing the Marvel feature from a screenplay written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, Ryan Reynolds and Levy. The Marvel Studios threequel is not expected to be impacted by the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike beyond Reynolds being prevented from improvising on set due to being listed as a co-writer on Deadpool 3. Unlike the first two Deadpool films, which featured a lot of improvisation between Reynolds and his co-stars, the actor will have to say exactly what is written on the page.

The X-Men original trilogy is currently streaming on Disney+. Deadpool 3 is scheduled to open in theaters on Nov. 8, 2024.
