After a two-year wait, the new season of Batman: Caped Crusader is almost here. Prime Video unveiled the release date for the streaming cartoon alongside a batch of first-look images that tease the debuts of several iconic Batman villains, including the Joker.
The Joker, Scarecrow & More Get Reimagined for Caped Crusader Season 2

Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 will once again reimagine Batman's iconic rogues, with Joker, Riddler, Scarecrow, and Mad Hatter all being given new looks to fit the show's retro, film noir style. This can be seen in the first look images above, although the Joker is being kept largely hidden in the shadows, with only part of his face visible.
Like the Penguin in Season 1, the Mad Hatter will be gender-swapped for Caped Crusader. The image reveals that she will be the host of a show titled Hattie's Tea Party.
Beyond the new villains for Caped Crusader, the Season 2 first-look images also tease the return of Carrie Kelley, who looks set to become Batman's sidekick. However, unlike the comics, where she was the first female Robin, Carrie's superhero costume in Caped Crusader pulls inspiration from the Grey Ghost.
Announced in 2021, Batman: Caped Crusader was originally in development for HBO Max but was shelved in August 2022 by Warner Bros. Discovery as part of larger cost-cutting methods. The cartoon was acquired by Prime Video in early 2023 and handed a two-season order.
In Caped Crusader, per the official logline, “the corrupt outnumber the good as criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear [in Gotham City]. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—the Batman. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.”
The voice cast for Batman: Caped Crusader includes Hamish Linklater as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Christina Ricci as Catwoman, Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn, and Diedrich Bader as Two-Face, among others.
Batman: Caped Crusader returns on Prime Video on July 31.
