Pedro Pascal's Looking a Lot More Like Reed Richards in Fantastic Four Set Photos

Several recent social media posts of Pedro Pascal on the set of the latest movie in The Fantastic Four franchise show the actor looking more and more like his character of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic. Pascal (The Last of Us) is playing the iconic leader of The Fantastic Four in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is headed to theaters in July of 2025.

The X account Pedro Pascal Daily showed the actor signing autographs for fans, and another account, Marvel Diário showed the actor in a split screen with his Fantastic Four character, noting the grey streak of hair in Pascal’s hair that matches that of Reed Richards.

Official Fantastic Four Synopsis Revealed

Marvel recently released an official synopsis of the upcoming Phase Six movie that, in addition to Pascal, stars Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing), and Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/The Human Torch). The synopsis reads: "Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel's First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet.”

The summary continues: "Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus' plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren't bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”

For Pascal, joining the MCU has been a long time coming. He discussed his interest in January 2023, saying, "I want to be in [MCU] movies. There’s so many ways to misunderstand people and to forget that, at the end of the day, your neighbor is very likely to give you the shirt off their own back. The interchanges that you have with strangers are, more often than not, human. But then you can go and look shit up and be terrified by how divided we all apparently are. To comfort myself, I just remember that everybody I come in contact with is sort of, in their own way, heroically kind."

WandaVision Director is Helming the New Fantastic Four Film

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision) and will have a retro vibe to it as it was inspired by the 1960s’ era and the excitement around the Space Race. “I really wanted to take all of that great stuff from Apollo 11 and just imagine that instead of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, it was the Storms and Ben Grimm and Reed Richards heading off into space,” Shakman said.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Already Receiving Praise

Ahead of its release, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is already garnering praise for its use of practical sets. Michael Giacchino, who is doing the music for the film, said in a recent interview he was impressed with the lack of blue/green screens on the set. “I was just on set for a week. It was something to see real sets everywhere,” Giacchino said. “There wasn’t a Volume or a green screen to be found. It was just beautiful sets. They’re doing such incredible work and the actors all look amazing."

Pascal is Currently Starring in Gladiator II

Pascal can currently be seen in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, which is in theaters now. Before its U.S. release, the film debuted in 63 overseas markets with an estimated $87 million, marking the biggest overseas premiere for a Scott-directed film. It is also Paramount’s best overseas premiere for an R-rated movie from the U.S. "This movie has an identity that is shaped by [Russell Crowe's] legacy," Pascal said in July. "I think that a lot happens before you can stop and question what you’ve done. And then of course there’s no changing it. He’s a very, very good general, which can mean a very good killer."

Pascal is also expected to return as Reed Richards in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday and 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.
