The Office is officially returning to Peacock. The upcoming sequel series will not continue the original characters' stories, but will feature an all-new cast in a new location.

The follow-up series is called The Paper and is set in the same universe as the flagship American series. Peacock has revealed a first look at the new building with a release date set for September 2025. "The Scranton documentary crew is heading to Toledo," Peacock wrote in a post on X alongside a photo of the new building.

The American NBC fan-favorite series ran between 2005 and 2013 and was based on the UK series of the same name crated by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. The mockumentary sitcom went on to be adapted across the world, most recently, in Australia, with a female boss. The Paper comes from The Office creator Greg Daniels and is produced alongside Nathan for You co-creator Michael Koman.

The Office follow-up series was announced in January 2024, and has received several updates since. The Paper will star Domhnall Gleeson (About Time, Ex-Machina) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Tim Key, and Eric Rahill in the leading roles.

Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts will appear as guest stars. As a part of NBCUniversal's upfront presentation, the network shared another look at The Paper, which showed Domhnall Gleeson on a desk talking to his coworkers.

Although Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Rainn Wilson are not part of the new spinoff, some characters from the original will make an appearance. Oscar Nuñez, who played Oscar Martínez in the original series, confirmed he will be a part of the upcoming The Paper. "They’re still editing and stuff," Nuñez told the Today show in April. "It’s very, very exciting."

The official logline for The Paper states, "The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it." The new series will take place at a historic Toledo newspaper, The Truth Teller, as the documentary crew follows their attempt to revive the newspaper.

The Office Stars Have Visited the Set

Jenna Fischer and Angela Kingsey, who played Pam and Angela, respectively, have a joint podcast titled Office Ladies, where they rewatch the show and share behind-the-scenes secrets about the popular sitcom. The recently revealed that creator Greg Daniels invited them to come to the set of the follow-up series, The Paper.

"Jenna and I stopped by set," Kinsey revealed. "Greg had invited us, and we showed up, and not only was Oscar there, but our crew, so many of these wonderful people. ‘Cause the crew was our extended family, and we’re still really close with them, and that’s really moving to see."

The Office is streaming on Peacock. The Paper will debut on the platform in September.
