Nintendo Switch Online Members Can Play NBA 2K26 Free for a Limited Time

Nintendo rarely discounts its first-party games, and it is even less common for the company to offer full games at no additional cost. However, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners looking for something new to play currently have a budget-friendly option.

Nintendo Switch Online members can play the complete version of NBA 2K26 through Nintendo’s Game Trials program. The limited-time offer is available until 11:59 p.m. Pacific on Aug. 13.

NBA 2K26 Joins Nintendo’s Game Trials

Developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K, NBA 2K26 is the latest installment in the long-running basketball franchise, which has released a new game almost every year since 1999.

The game features current NBA teams and players while offering updated graphics, revised rosters and several improvements over previous installments. Players can compete in traditional games or explore popular modes such as MyCareer and The City.

Nintendo’s Game Trials program gives eligible Nintendo Switch Online members unrestricted access to the complete game during the promotional period. Unlike a standard demo, the trial allows players to experience the full version without purchasing it first.

The promotion gives newcomers an opportunity to decide whether NBA 2K26 is worth buying. It may also appeal to longtime fans who want something to play while waiting for NBA 2K27, which is expected to arrive in September 2026.

Any progress made during the trial—including progress in MyCareer and The City—can carry over if the player later purchases the full game.

Nintendo Switch Online Offers More Than Game Trials

Game Trials are only one benefit included with a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Subscribers also receive online multiplayer access and a collection of classic NES, Super NES and Game Boy titles.

Players with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack can access additional libraries featuring games from the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance and GameCube eras. The expanded membership also includes downloadable content for select Nintendo games, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

NBA 2K26 is also available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The upcoming NBA 2K27 is expected to launch for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
