I saw Masters of the Universe on Thursday with my son, and I have to admit—I went in with pretty low expectations. After years of delays and mixed reactions to past adaptations, I wasn't sure what to expect. Thankfully, the movie ended up being one of the biggest surprises of 2026.
The best way to describe it is nonstop fun. From the opening scenes, the film embraces everything fans love about the franchise. Eternia feels alive, colorful, adventurous, and faithful to the classic toys and cartoons. The filmmakers clearly understand what makes Masters of the Universe special.
The movie reminded me a lot of Thor: Ragnarok. It has that same blend of action, humor, fantasy, and larger-than-life characters. There's also a bit of the adventurous spirit of Guardians of the Galaxy, mixing science fiction and fantasy in a way that keeps things exciting and entertaining.
Nicholas Galitzine does a solid job as He-Man and Prince Adam. He handles the action sequences well while bringing some humor and personality to the role. He feels heroic without taking himself too seriously, which fits the movie's tone perfectly.
What impressed me most was how the film fully commits to the world of Eternia. Rather than shying away from the fantasy elements, it embraces them, giving fans the epic adventure they've wanted to see on the big screen for decades.

Final Score

Feels like a modern He-Man adventure
Your Nerd Side Verdict:Masters of the Universe is a fun, exciting adventure that captures the spirit of the classic franchise while updating it for a new generation. If you're a He-Man fan, this is absolutely worth checking out. Yes go see it!

Your Nerd Side Quick Take
The early word is that this is the best live-action He-Man movie ever made—which isn't a high bar given the 1987 film—but fans seem excited that it fully embraces Eternia, Castle Grayskull, Battle Cat, and the larger mythology instead of spending most of its runtime on Earth.
Rating : 8/10
After decades of development delays, He-Man finally returns to the big screen in a big-budget live-action adventure directed by Travis Knight. This new take appears to embrace the fantasy world of Eternia much more than the 1987 film, which spent most of its time on Earth.
