Lana Condor Wants Another Shot at Jubilee in Marvel’s X-Men Reboot

The X-Men are getting closer to their long-awaited return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fans already know several familiar mutants are expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, while Marvel Studios is preparing for a larger reboot of the franchise following Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Although the next generation of X-Men is still coming together, one former franchise star is making it clear she would gladly return.

Lana Condor, who played Jubilee in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, says she wants another opportunity to portray the fan-favorite mutant.

“I would love nothing more than to come back as Jubilation Lee,” Condor told The Direct.

While Condor has apparently expressed her interest directly to filmmakers, she emphasized that no official agreement or serious negotiations have taken place.

“That’s all I’ve been hearing, but no real conversations,” she explained. “I’ve talked to the filmmakers and been like, ‘Hey, listen, I’m 10 years older now. I know more. Bring me back.’ So we’ll see.”

Condor’s appearance as Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse was relatively brief, leaving many fans feeling the character never received the attention she deserved. A return to the role could give Condor the chance to explore Jubilee in far greater depth.

The challenge is that Marvel appears to be building its new X-Men franchise around a younger generation of actors and characters.

According to the current casting reports, Sadie Sink has emerged as Jean Grey following her appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Other names connected to Marvel’s new mutant lineup include Kit Connor as Cyclops, Maya Boyd as Storm, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor Xavier and Adam Driver as Nathaniel Essex, better known as Mister Sinister.

Marvel is also continuing to bring back performers from the earlier X-Men movies. Actors including James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Patrick Stewart, Kelsey Grammer and Ian McKellen have all been connected to the franchise’s multiverse storyline surrounding Avengers: Doomsday.

That creates an interesting question for Condor.

Would Marvel bring her back as the same Jubilee audiences met in X-Men: Apocalypse, or would the studio eventually cast a younger actress as part of its rebooted X-Men team?

At 29, Condor acknowledges that time has passed since she originally played the teenage mutant, but she believes the additional experience could actually make her better suited for the character today.

For now, nothing has been confirmed.

But after receiving only a small amount of screen time as Jubilee the first time around, Lana Condor clearly wants another chance.

And with Marvel opening the door to both returning X-Men veterans and an entirely new generation of mutants, her comeback may not be impossible.
