Jonathan Joss, known for his voice role as John Redcorn in the hit animated series King of the Hill, has died after being shot by a neighbor. He was 59 years old.

Per TMZ, San Antonio Police Dept. officers say Joss had gotten into a "heated argument" with a neighbor near his home in San Antonio, Texas. It's not clear at this time what the argument was about, but cops say the neighbor pulled out a gun and shot Joss "several" times before leaving the scene in a vehicle. Responding paramedics tried to save Joss, but he was pronounced dead.

The suspect has since been identified by police as Sigfredo Alvarez-Cega. He was apprehended about a block away from where the incident occurred, and cops officially charged him with murder. His bond has been set at $200K. Investigators are now working to uncover more information about the argument by speaking with witnesses.

Joss' death comes several months after he suffered devastating losses. In January 2025, it was reported that the actor lost his home, vehicle, and three dogs to a brutal house fire. A fundraiser has been set up for Joss after that incident to help him with finances, which noted that the house had been built by his father for his mother in the 1950s. He had also lost all of his possessions.

Joss was best known for voicing John Redcorn in King of the Hill from Seasons 2 through 13; he had replaced original voice actor Victor Aaron, who died in 1996. Before his passing, it was confirmed that Joss reprised his role as John Redcorn for the new King of the Hill sequel series debuting on Hulu this summer. His death follows the passing of Dale Gribble voice actor Johnny Hardwick, who also died after completing some work for the new series. Toby Huss was recently announced to be taking over as the voice of Dale for the revival.

The actor also had some memorable live-action roles, including playing Ken Hotate in a recurring role for the comedy series Parks and Recreation. His other TV roles include ER, Charmed, Friday Night Lights, The Messengers, Ray Donovan, Manhattan Love Story, The League, Comanche Moon, Into the West, and Tulsa King. He could also be seen in movies like Almost Heroes, Christmas in the Clouds, Johnson Family Vacation, True Grit, The Magnificent Seven, and The Forever Purge.

Joss had done voice work for the Disney sequel Pocahontas II: Journey to the World as well. His other voice credits include the TV shows The Wild Thornberries and Justice League Unlimited, as well as the video games Red Dead Redemption, The Walking Dead: Michonne, Days Gone, Wasteland 3, and Cyberpunk 2077.
