Following Monday's first official look at Lex Luthor's warsuit in Man of Tomorrow, we have a new, less official look at Superman's costume in the superhero sequel. Video from Man of Tomorrow's production shows David Corenswet in action and in a new Superman suit.

The suit also seems to fit more snugly than it did in Superman and may be made from thicker material. It brings to mind Jim Lee's New 52 era Superman Kryptonian armor design, though Superman's trunks are still clearly present.

Superman's New Look May Be Due To a New Threat

So why the upgrade to Superman's suit? Well, it's just kind of expected at this point, right? If a superhero sequel comes out and its protagonist is wearing the same old suit from the previous movie, that feels like a missed opportunity, particularly regarding branded collectibles and merchandise, which is where the real money is made on corporate intellectual properties.

But in the case of Man of Tomorrow, there may be an in-story reason as well. This is only speculation, but we can assume that Lex Luthor didn't build that warsuit for nothing. Perhaps both Lex and Supes will be motivated to up their fashion game by the presence of incredibly powerful new foes, including the world-conquering Maxima and the alien collector Brainiac.

"Brainiac is what happens when intelligence loses ALL connection to humanity," Gunn recently shared on social media, explaining his understanding of the central conflict between Brainiac and the Man of Steel. "And Superman is as human as anyone, so… I get why they have beef. Brainiac made his comic debut on this day in Action Comics #242."

Superman Has Another Appearance Lined Up Before Man of Tomorrow

While we're still about a year away from Man of Tomorrow hitting theaters, DC fans won't have to wait that long to see Corenswet's Superman again, at least for a few moments. Superman is confirmed to appear in Supergirl, opening in June. However, his role will likely be limited since Supergirl follows Kal-El's cousin, Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock), on a spacefaring adventure.

Man of Tomorrow will also feature Aaron Pierre reprising his role as John Stewart, following his debut in the role in HBO's Lanterns this year. The presence of a Green Lantern in the Superman sequel also speaks to the severe threat posed by the likes of Maxima and Brainiac.

Man of Tomorrow opens in theaters on July 9, 2027.
