James Gunn has given fans a new look at Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific in the upcoming DCU film, Superman. The movie hits theaters on July 11.
Gunn's photo, posted to Instagram, shows the two together on the set of Superman, with Gathegi in full costume as Mr. Terrific. Gunn captioned the post with a birthday message for the actor, who is celebrating his 46th birthday today. "Happy Birthday to my great friend and great actor @iamedigathegi, who you can see in all his technological glory in #Superman in July!"
Gathegi will join David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor in James Gunn's upcoming reboot of the DC Universe film franchise. The film will explore the Man of Steel's journey as he learns more about his Kryptonian heritage while living with his adoptive family in Smallville, Kansas. Gathegi plays Michael Holt (Mister Terrific), a superhero / inventor who fights crime with high-tech gadgets

It remains to be seen how prominent Gathegi's role as Mister Terrific will be in the Supermanmovie, which marks the character's live-action film debut. Michael Beach, Hannibal Buress and Kevin Michael Richardson have all voiced the character for DC's animated television series and various films, with the character often working with the Justice League to keep the Earth safe from threats.
DC Will Launch a Mr. Terrific Series Ahead of Superman Film

Last month, DC Comics announced it would explore the story of Mr. Terrific with an all-new limited series, teasing it would "revisit and expand" the character's origins. The first issue of Mr. Terrific: Year One will go on sale May 28, with the entire story planned as a six-part series written by Peabody Award-winning journalist Al Letson with art by Valentine De Landro and Edwin Galmon. Those looking to learn more about Mr. Terrific ahead of his DCU debut will find the series the perfect opportunity to get to know the character, with DC teasing Year One as highlighting how "the exceptionally intelligent Holt [goes] from the depths of despair to the heights of heroism as Mr. Terrific."
The character of Michael Holt is the second character to take up the Mister Terrific name in DC Comics history, with the Golden Age's Terry Sloane being the first. The mantle was later passed on to Holt, a character with genius-level intellect as well as a skilled athlete and martial artist. He first appeared in DC's Spectre #54 back in June 1997.
James Gunn's Superman film is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
