Star Wars: Eclipse, the controversial video game that has been stuck in development since 2021, has received an official update from its studio. The action-adventure game is being handled by Quantic Dream, the studio behind Detroit: Become Human.

In a press release shared on Quantic Dream's official blog, Founder David Cage gave fans an encouraging update on the Star Wars project in a short, but sweet message: "Of course, development of Star Wars: Eclipsecontinues, and we are eager to share more with you in the future." Eclipse was announced at The Game Awards 2021 as an action/adventure game set in the High Republic, approximately 200 years before the events of The Phantom Menace.

The rest of Cage's message spoke about a new chapter for Quantic Dream after doubling the size of their team and opening a new studio in Montreal. According to Cage, multiple teams are dedicated to crafting the studio's new games, including a competitive multiplayer experience. An exact title wasn't announced, but Cage teased that it may "surprise" fans due to how different it is from the studio's previous works.

The future for the studio seems to be bright, despite the Star Wars project being mired in controversy. In 2022, potential players launched a boycott of the game with the hashtag #BlackoutStarWarsEclipse on Twitter (now X). The goal was to have Disney revoke the Star Wars license from Quantic Dream due to hostile work allegations and a toxic environment at the studio. The game will reportedly be released sometime in 2027 or 2028 due to the issues the studio was facing.

Star Wars: Eclipse faced further issues in August 2024, when it was announced that lead writer Adam Williams was departing Quantic Dream after being with the company for 10 years. He was the lead writer for Detroit: Become Human. A replacement writer has not been formally announced by the studio.

New Star Wars Game Will Take Place During the High Republic

Although Quantic Dream may have finally given fans an encouraging update regarding Star Wars: Eclipse, an exact release date for the game has yet to be revealed at this time. The game's plot and characters also remain largely a mystery, with its setting during the High Republic era being the main detail that has been made public.

The High Republic era spans 500–100 years before the Skywalker Saga, hundreds of years after the fall of the 'Old Republic.' It began with 'The Great Disaster', which saw space Vikings known as the Nihil arriving, with the Jedis intervening. Other Star Wars projects set during this era include the TV series The Acolyte and the animated show Young Jedi Adventures, as well as numerous novels and comic books.

Star Wars: Eclipse does not have a release date at this time.
