Filming is now underway on Universal Pictures' Fast & Furious 10.
Vin Diesel confirmed the news by dropping a photo of the film's logo on Instagram. It's unclear if "Fast X" is indeed the title or merely a stylized version of the franchise name and installment number.
Fast & Furious 10 will feature a number of returning stars beyond Diesel, who's played Dom Toretto since the start of the franchise. However, it's also welcoming several new big names, including Captain Marvel star Brie Larson and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa, with the latter playing a villain.
"He's amazing. He's ornery. He's misunderstood," Momoa said of his character. "I get to shoot with some really cool people that I have never -- I get to work with Charlize [Theron] first up, which I'm really excited about. She's amazing. Then I get to go to some cool places. Obviously work with the whole cast -- most of the cast... But yeah, I'm excited I'm working with Vin. I'm excited I'm working with Charlize."
The previous month, shortly after Momoa was confirmed for Fast & Furious 10, he expressed his excitement over the prospect of playing a villain, which is a notable change of pace for the actor. "It's fun, I get to play the bad guy, which I haven't gotten to do for a while," he said. "Now, I get to be the bad boy. A very flamboyant bad boy. A little panache!"
One person who won't be back for Fast & Furious 10 is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who turned down Diesel's offer to reprise his role as Luke Hobbs. "This past June, when Vin and I actually connected not over social media, I told him directly - and privately - that I would not be returning to the franchise," Johnson explained. " I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return. I privately spoke with my partners at Universal as well, all of whom were very supportive as they understand the problem."
Fast & Furious 10 races into theaters May 19, 2023.
