Chris Evans may not be finished with the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Doomsday.
The actor, best known for playing Steve Rogers/Captain America, appears to have hinted that his MCU return could continue into Avengers: Secret Wars. While Marvel has not officially announced the full extent of Evans’ role beyond Doomsday, a recent video message has fans convinced that Steve Rogers may be sticking around longer than expected.
Did Chris Evans Hint at Avengers: Secret Wars?
Over the weekend, Instagram user Jessica Zborowski, known as comicconmomsi, shared a personal video message from Evans that her husband had arranged as a gift for their 20th anniversary.
In the video, Evans seemingly suggests that he has more Marvel work ahead, saying that in a couple of months he starts work on “the next one.”
Evans does not directly name Avengers: Secret Wars in the message. However, the timing of the video has led fans to believe he was not referring to Avengers: Doomsday. That film was reportedly already in production from April through September 2025, while Secret Wars is expected to begin filming in mid-2026.
If that timeline is accurate, Evans’ comment could point to another appearance as Steve Rogers in the follow-up film.

Chris Evans’ History as Captain America
Evans first joined the MCU in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, introducing audiences to Steve Rogers, the World War II hero who would become one of the franchise’s central figures.
He returned the following year in The Avengers and went on to appear across multiple Marvel films throughout the 2010s. His version of Captain America became one of the defining characters of the MCU, leading major stories in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
Evans appeared to close the chapter on Steve Rogers in Endgame, when the character passed the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson. However, Marvel’s multiverse era has opened the door for major returns, alternate timelines, and unexpected character appearances.
Why Steve Rogers Matters in Doomsday
Marvel Studios has already confirmed Evans’ return for Avengers: Doomsday, and the actor has suggested that he would only come back if there was a meaningful reason for Steve Rogers to re-enter the story.
That is a major point for fans. Evans’ Captain America had a strong emotional ending in Endgame, so his return carries high expectations. Marvel will need to make sure Steve Rogers has a real purpose in the story rather than simply appearing for nostalgia.
A Massive MCU Crossover
Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s biggest crossover films yet. The movie is expected to bring together several major MCU heroes, including Thor, Shang-Chi, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Yelena Belova, Loki, Ant-Man, Namor, and others.
The film will also mark a major moment for the franchise by bringing the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four into the same live-action Marvel story.
Even with such a large cast, the creative team appears focused on making sure each character has a meaningful role. Actor Lewis Pullman, who plays Sentry, previously suggested that the Russo brothers are making sure the film does not feel overcrowded and that every major character has a moment that matters.
Could Steve Rogers Return Again?
If Evans does appear in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it would make his MCU comeback much bigger than a one-film return.
That possibility is especially exciting because Secret Wars is expected to serve as a direct sequel to Doomsday and could bring together even more heroes from across Marvel history. With the multiverse playing such a major role in the current MCU, Steve Rogers’ return could be tied to alternate realities, legacy characters, or one final mission.
For now, Marvel has not fully revealed how Evans will fit into the next two Avengers films. But if his recent comments are any indication, fans may be seeing much more of Captain America than originally expected.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
